Supreme Court leaves Illinois assault weapons ban in place
The Hill ^ | 05/17/2023 | ZACH SCHONFELD

The Supreme Court declined to immediately block Illinois’s assault weapons and high-capacity magazine bans, leaving them in place, for now.

A gun rights group and gun shop owner asked the justices to pause the law’s enforcement by intervening in the case ahead of an appeals court’s final ruling. The lawsuit also challenges an ordinance in Naperville, Ill., that bans the sale of assault rifles.

If these people weren’t morons they’d be worried more about 300 Win Mags than AR15s.

Yep, it’s not a good sign. I think there is a good chance emotion will trump logic and an AR ban will stand

10 for rifle, 15 for handgun. They have a whole dream list of guns they want to ban. Can keep (grandfathered) but must register so they can confiscate in a year or two. By the time the useless courts catch up, it’ll be too late.

The Hill article left out the fact the Seventh Circuit has agreed to expedite the case. That is the reason SCOTUS declined to intervene in the case this early.

The arguments that would have started in 2024 have been moved to June 2023.

This should be interesting to watch. Naperville is a city of 150,000 about 30 miles from ChiTown. It is a city ordinance, not a state law.

This isn’t about states’ rights, rather just a local ordinance. This could open the door to sanctuary gun cities that cast aside state gun laws.

Interesting.

My uncle lives there and his guns aren’t going anywhere.

For now. Just wait til they pass the laws that allow them to fine folks for not participating in "mandatory buybacks" and the like. It's coming. Everyone is waiting for them to knock on your door to take guns. Molon the labia and such.

Here's the problem with the door knock method: the gun grabbers aren't stupid. They are anti-American leftist marxist democrat trash, but they aren't stupid. They know full well that going door to door for mass confiscations would be problematic for them. Instead, when the time comes, they will institute fines for those who fail to turn theirs in during amnesty period mandatory buybacks. There have already been rumors of such a scheme, which placed the fine at $1,000 per day per firearm. Another such scheme I read about a while back, actually, placed it at $30,000 per firearm.

Once they have levied the fines, and we don't pay, the garnishments to our wages begin. The liens against that beautiful home you only THINK you own and the liens against your other property - cars, trucks, boats, RV's, etc - will be put into place. The longer we hold out, the worse it gets. Soon, the loss of electricity through the use of "smart meters" that way too many morons are actually volunteering to have placed in their homes.

And let's face it: why shouldn't they volunteer for smart meters? After all, electricity is so high right now that every penny counts. If they use a smart meter, they can look forward to saving a little money, AND the responsibility has been placed entirely on the shoulders of the electric company (which will eventually become a state owned entity). Americans today HATE personal responsibility, so the more they can shift to government or other parties, the better.

In time, the government will literally own you and everything you've worked so hard for. Eventually, the wife packs the kids up and heads to mom and dads, because living in a home with no electric and having a greatly diminished capacity to pay other bills or otherwise live comfortably have been blown out the window, all so dad can keep his guns. Eventually, a good # of gun owners will be begging the state to take their firearms.

So, what will it take for all of this to happen? For now, we have the Constitution in place and, although it does not grant rights, it does protect them if we have a fair, impartial and Constitutionally minded SCOTUS. As we know today, the SCOTUS is far from impartial, and the anti-American leftist marxist trash are working overtime to continue that to their benefit. Hence, the push to expand the court. As we've seen in the past, even the more "conservative" on the court are more than willing to bend and twist to make laws fit the leftist narrative.

Now, let me pose another scenario to you. Lets say that, in the middle of the anti-American leftist marxist democrat trash trying to take our firearms, a very real and plausible threat happens: China is able to put an end to the petrodollar and replace it with the petroyuan. Now, on its face, this wouldn't be the end of America, entirely. It WOULD, however, cause some serious financial ripples through America. After all, GB survived the death of the petropound when it was replaced with the petrodollar.

Now, add in to the mix high inflation and banks already teetering on the brink. If China is successful in replacing the petrodollar, the American dollar will collapse the likes we haven't seen since Venezuela. The hard ship on Americans is going to be the likes of which we have rarely experienced. People will starve, people will die. The stronger will be too preoccupied with trying to feed and clothe their families that there won't be anyone to fight when China steps in and says, "Ok, your Constitution is null & void, your SCOTUS is dead. However, we will allow you some semblance of the America you once knew: we're going to install your representatives for you." And they will proceed to install, as the ruling elite in America, those families they have bought and paid for over time (Clintons, Bidens, et al).

It could all happen, very easily. Not only that, but that is where we are headed. Anyone with 2 brain cells to rub together can see that based on the very things we see today.

I truly do fear that, by the time the Good Lord comes to end it all, America will be less than a specter of the once great Nation she was. The American people will be nothing more than subjects. All because, although we can see it from here, we fail to do a damned thing. We prefer peaceful slavery of mortgages and outrageous car payments and all the creature comforts that wealth provides us over the very dangerous and animating contest for freedom.

The Supreme court is mostly full of hacks. They can’t even make two consistent decisions in a row.

They didn’t step in. They were just allowing the appeals court to decide first. My take is that they want to see if the appeals court gets it right and if Illinois appeals to the SC, they will affirm the lower court if they get it right and hear it if they get it wrong.

Unmentioned on the thread, this is the Illinois Supreme Court, not SCOTUS

” The liens against that beautiful home you only THINK you own and the liens against your other property - cars, trucks, boats, RV’s, etc - will be put into place.”

You need boots on the ground to enforce liens. And the fat, affirmative action federal bureaucrats who can’t figure out which bathroom to use won’t hack it.

You’d need frontend loaders and giant earth moving equipment from Anaconda Mining to position the fattys near Burger King so they wouldn’t complain about starving to death.

OK, folks, this is NOT, NOT, NOT what it seems. Cool your jets, and don’t take any anti-depressants.

This is NOT a Supreme Court decision says that the Illinois ban is OK, it is simply a ruling on a preliminary injunction that was appealed to the Supreme Court. The 7th Circuit denied the injunction, and it was appealed before a decision was even made at the Circuit Court level, to the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court *rarely* grants such preliminary injunctions before a lower court has made a decision on the particular case at hand, and all that the Supreme Court did here was to follow its tradition. This was “helped“ by the fact that the 7th Circuit consolidated several similar cases together and decided to significantly advance the hearings on those cases. It is likely that the 7th Circuit will allow the ban to remain in place, at which point the plaintiffs can then appeal to the Supreme Court (where I expect that the ban will be ruled unconstitutional). Only then will the Supreme Court actually pass judgment on the Illinois ban.
