Last week, a Florida teacher reported she received a disciplinary letter from the Department of Education. She is facing disciplinary action for showing the Disney movie “Strange World”. The movie has LGBTQ themes and a parent complained when their child reported viewing the movie at school. The teacher in question was interviewed this morning on CNN.

In the interview, the teacher justified the movie by claiming students already talk about these topics and she cannot be expected to police all their conversations.
She knew EXACTLY what she was doing when she showed this movie. She should be fired.

She didn't ask the school for permission to show the movie and the form she sent home for parents to give permission asked parents to name movies from Disney/Dreamworks that parents would be against their kid seeing. She is in the wrong.

Several commenters suggested Unions protect this kind of behavior and should lose funding, or parents should just pull their children from public schools altogether.
Teachers are paid to teach school curriculum, not their beliefs.

That’s the spirit! The way to effect change in our schools is to get involved, run for school board, and vote. That is how we ensure teachers understand parents and citizens have the last word about what happens in local schools.
This sort of argument is a pretty good way to make sure that parents keep leaving the public school system in droves.

This is when a very large group of parents need to show up outside school board offices demanding every damn one of those overpaid prince and princess resign right now. Don’t care it was a single teacher, the board failed to instill the message of who is in charge.
When the police block off the building, flood the phone lines, email boxes, social, local media, etc. Keep the pressure on until something is done to right this wrong. This is the kind of small battle in the larger need to win back our country.
