Former President Donald Trump continues to dominate the Republican primary field with a 43-point lead over his closest potential competitor, according to a Morning Consult poll.
The poll, published on Tuesday, finds that 61 percent of potential Republican primary voter respondents support Trump for the nomination. Another 18 percent of participants back Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL), who has not declared a candidacy, placing him in second place. Trump’s 43-point lead is the largest he has had in the polling outfit’s running “2024 GOP Primary Tracker.” The margin between the two widened by two points since last week when Trump registered 60 percent of support to DeSantis’s 19 percent.
No other candidate garners double-digit support in the latest poll. Former Vice President Mike Pence sits in third place at six percent, followed by former Gov. Nikki Haley (R-SC) and businessman Vivek Ramaswamy who tie at four percent. Another two percent of respondents back former Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY), while Gov. Greg Abbott (R-TX), Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC), and former Gov. Asa Hutchinson (R-AR) tie at one percent.

But, DeSantis has declared yet! Wait until he does!
You can trust the polls. Even ones where candidate is up by 43 points!
The Bushes know a winner when they see one.
28 Ron. that is your time. The rats used the FIB to hobble Trump for his entire term. Then they stole his re-election. Do the right thing get behind Trump.
One way or another the deep state is going to take Donald Trump out of the race before the election. And DeSantis has probably been promised that.
We’re over seven months away from the first primary. Trump has already stepped in it with evangelicals and pro-lifers. He’s got legal cases in front of him (regardless of the legitimacy), he’s 78 years old and faces a hard wall of voters who will never vote for him. He spends his days attacking a legitimately successful republican governor rather than the Dems - so no, I’m ot going to trust the polls, especially Breitbart which was once run by Steve Bannon.
I will never vote for him. He’s one of them.
These primary polls might be interesting, but they don’t mean much. Absent some sort of black swan event, Trump has the GOP nomination. End of story.
My focus is on the general election. Trump won in 2016 by a razor-thin margin. And he lost in 2020 due to a combination of voter fraud and media lies. How is 2024 going to be any different?
Well you may be right. It would explain why Ron seems totally unaffected by the massive Trump lead.
Trump is attacking your FBI too..and Biden..
i havent been following the polls that closely
but isnt ron going in the wrong direction?
Seems harsh, DeSantis is the best Governor in the country. It may be a low bar but it’s the truth
Trump hasnt attacked dems?
since when?
You know - FR used to be a forum for legitimate discussion among conservatives. In the past several years it has become as crass as society in general (and fed by Trump himself). I find a lot of the Trump supporters here use his tactic of the ad hominem attack rather than having a serious discussion of issues. In debate class, we learned that was sign of a weak argument or lack of knowledge about the topic at hand.
Be wary, could be “pump and dump”.
“How is 2024 going to be any different?”
Applies to ANY Republican candidate in my opinion. If Trump can’t pull out a win after being proven right on so many major issues, DeSantis won’t do any better. If DeSantis is truly conservative, he needs to join forces with Trump against the Deep State.
I don’t like Trump’s attacks on DeSantis, but DeSantis is going to try and primary the guy who played a significant role in DeSantis’ wins. It just strikes me as a bit disloyal, and frankly, Trump was robbed of his second term.
DeSantis should be outraged by the way Trump was treated rather than trying to pin Republican losses on Trump. DeSantis, if he’s truly anti-Swamp, will face the same or worse headwinds as Trump.
I’ve noticed that too. It seems the quality of discourse here has gotten more coarse.
Only one reason DeSantis is in this, and that’s so the corrupt establishment insiders have chance to derail Trump.
They’ll fail big.
