Green now means SCAM
Conversely...
Having a small lawn an electric mower might be better.
So...
LET THE MARKET DECIDE and not some marxist government.
“For residents like Ed Haskill, the city’s entire climate strategy is pointless, given the global scale of greenhouse gas emissions.
‘Yes, it would be nice if everything was perfect and wonderful and we could change the world in South Portland, but until you get India and China onboard, you ain’t changing the climate,’ he said.”
It’s not going to change even IF! Ed you are a dolt!
It’s a money-laundering, wealth re-distribution scheme. THAT is the ‘global scale’ of it! Suck. Americans. Dry.
And they’re doing a d@mn fine job of it, too! Ugh!
You will eat bugs, live in the dark in your hovels, with weeds surrounding it, own nothing and be HAPPY!.......................
Gas mowers are the ONLY way to efficiently and quickly cut grass. However the BEST trimmer I’ve ever used is a DeWalt 20v cordless. I have a LOT of DeWalt cordless tools and they are great. For a trimmer it’s not on ALL the time like a mower...at least for my yard...so the battery time isn’t an issue especially with a 4 or 6 amp hour battery.
When my riding mower recently gave up the ghost, I bought an electric zero-turn riding mower. I'm able to cut 1.5 acres (the combined mowing area of mine and my mother's lots) with it but need to recharge when I'm about 2/3rds done. Which it can do while I'm weed trimming and blowing the sidewalk, then immediately hop onto the mower and finish the job.
But I have tons of weed trimming anyway (significant time for the riding mower to recharge to finish the mowing job). It probably wouldn't work as well for most people. I was spending over $330 per year on gas + oil change and air filter slip change (sometimes changing the air filter too). So that might pay off for me having the electric mower. We'll see if it holds up as well as a gas mower maintenance-wise.
Ed said the right thing about India and China but he made the mistake of accepting the premise of the argument.
I have two weed eaters. A small electric one I bought a Lowe’s, (2 batteries) and a big Stihl gas powered one that accepts multiple attachments. I also have a handy electric hand size chain saw, (Saker), and 2 gas powered chainsaws, Stihl & Husqvarna. The same goes with the liberal hating blowers, 2 small electrics and a big Magnum Stihl to make short work of cleaning my big asphalt driveway!
There’s a place for both. Politicians are just lazy whores who cater to the biggest dollar donor. They can take my gas powered outdoor appliances when they pry it from my cold dead dirty hands.
I’m on 2/3rds of an acre minus house and outbuildings. I have a Ryobi electric. It shreds as well as my gasser. And I could mow at night if I wanted to, it has headlights. Only uses a quarter of a fully charged battery. 40 minutes. I got it for free. I like it. It folds up so I can hang it on the wall in the shed.
I was afraid Eddie Haskell would be pushing the AGW/CC nonsense. It seems he has matured over the years. He’s talking sense on the matter.
Electric has some advantages, but benefitting the climate is not one of them. The electricity has to come from somewhere. All things considered; I think gas is better. Ground level CO2 is a fertilizer - it makes the world green.
As the world warms from the last ice age, ocean waters release CO2. Atmospheric CO2 does not cause warming. Warming causes atmospheric CO2.
Are we seeing a pattern here?
The CO2 from the gas mower feeds the lawn and trees. Does an electric?
I’ll mention again, if you have a small to medium sized lawn, a battery powered mower may be a good choice. No gas, no oil, starts every time. I had a Ryobi Battery Walking Mower way back in 1997. Battery life was about 25 minutes, just enough time to cut my smallish lawn if I hustled. Of course you have to keep the grass trimmed, you’re not going to cut through shin high, or maybe even ankle high grass.
Now, for commercial operators, no way that battery powered mowers can run all day and deal with the variety of yard work they face.
This week on Friday, as I do every Friday in the mowing season:
I will fire up my 38 hp diesel 72” Kubota front mount mower and cut the grass.
Before that I will go trim around the trees with the 25 hp Airens Z-turn mower and cut the small areas of the yard.
Following that I will crank up the four stroke trimmer and clean-up then blow the clippings with the gas powered blower.
After all of that, time permitting, I will crank up the 60 hp diesel tractor and the 7’ flail mower with fence line trimmer attachment and clip along part of the miles of pasture fence until dinner time or dark.
Friday is mowing day and one providing great satisfaction of a job well done. It usually only takes about 5 gallons of diesel and gasoline. Such an amazing power density in diesel fuel even at less than 30% thermal efficiency. Just imagine what could happen with just improving the efficiency to 40 or 50%! That seems like a far better investment of effort than retooling the entire world with battery driven stuff.
When someone can pack this much work into batteries at an economical price I might consider it. Until then forget about it. I won’t go down easily.
Truer words that need repeating.
If you want to go electric, there are remote controlled hybrid mowers. The cutter motor runs on gasoline, while movement is controlled by a battery-run electric motor. The operator uses a handheld wireless controller to direct the mower and control the cutting height. Benefit of the hybrid is that the gasoline motor recharges the battery while in use, resulting in long run times as long as the gasoline is available. Expensive, well over $1000 to $3000 but fun to use.
“For my business it would cost upwards of six figures just to purchase the equipment needed to replace our small engine fleet,”
Seen the video of a gang cleaning out a lawn care store?
Three minutes after busting out the front door with a stolen pickup truck...Small engine fleet restored for free!
Whatta country...
I actually just switched after 20 years from a gas powered to an electric trimmer/edger. I love it. It always works
