Let's get serious and repeal the Second Amendment

This column will be timely whenever you read it. Some horrible mass shooting will be in the headlines; one always is. Followed inevitably by pathetic wails of pain. “Do something!”

But there is nothing we can do today to end or even reduce the carnage inflicted on America by gun violence. Neither the no-longer-shocking massacres in our schools, bars and businesses nor the torrent of 53 “regular” gun murders daily is going away any time soon.

Thoughts and prayers won’t stop it, “reasonable gun regulation” won’t, even if we could get such laws passed, which we can’t. We are trapped in a death spiral of spent ammunition and wasted lives. The problem only gets worse, year after year after decade.

But we are not helpless. There is a way forward, if we stop thinking about magic fixes and realize that tackling the problem of gun violence is not the work of today or tomorrow. It is the work of generations. It is, at minimum, a 50 year job, but that clock won’t start until we get serious.

Getting serious means repealing, or drastically amending, the Second Amendment. The Supreme Court has decided that “a well-regulated militia” includes gang bangers and wild-eyed loners with a grudge. They say the Constitution makes it impossible to pass the gun laws that an overwhelming majority of the American people want. But the Constitution is not a suicide note. The Second Amendment can be amended, even repealed.

Most Americans aren’t for repeal yet, and the gun lovers will be outraged by the mere suggestion that their gun rights aren’t sacrosanct. So be it. As I said, this is a work for generations, and big ideas always take that long to percolate from the fringes to reality.

Dumbassery writ large but, he (them/they?) spend their time between SF and Palm Springs so......... Anyway, lucky for this assclown, joementia has reminded us that those pesky BOR things aren't absolute anyway. So let's review #13 and #19 while we're at it. Think anyone would raise an eyebrow with those?

Oh so NOW the second amendment isn’t a suicide pact! We’ve been talking about the suicide pact that is liberal policy but they tell us to shut up. But an inconvenient amendment, that’s not a suicide pact. Right. FOAD liberals. Move to Europe or South America. Let us know how that goes.

The First Amendment is also under active attack from the left.

Inalienable rights really bother them for some reason.

2/3 the House. 2/3 the Senate. 3/4 the States. Or, an Article 5 Convention of States, 34 States to call it, 38 to ratify. Question is: The 2A is a God given/Natural Right. Can people really just govern that away?

As a general rule, I think we’ve seen people “tweak” the Constitution through Amendments or questionable court cases. And people, although often unhappy about it, generally shrug and say, “The court decided to go that way. That’s how stuff works.”

Seems to me that the Second Amendment is the exception. You try to take that away? Millions will say “NO” in a very emphatic and unmistakable way. Because at that point, you just have nothing to lose.

Supreme Court Justice Joseph Story “Commentaries On The Constitution” about the 2nd Amendment”

2nd Amendment..

Protects our borders. (During WWII, Japan thought about attacking our left coast but they knew we were too well armed.)

Protects our property (Remember the Rodney King riots when the business owner got on their roofs to protect their properties)

And most importantly, PROTECT US FROM OUR GOVERNMENT!!!!

I think they are putting criminals on our streets in droves so they can go after the 2nd amendment.
