Poll: Donald Trump leads Ron DeSantis by 28 points in Florida

FAU's survey is the strongest in-state poll for Trump yet.

Another Florida poll shows that Ron DeSantis may have difficulty selling in-state Republicans on his presidential ambitions.

A just-released survey from Florida Atlantic University shows former President Donald Trump leading the Florida Governor, 59% to 31%, among 1,081 registered Republican voters in Florida polled in mid-April. That margin is well outside the +/- 3-percentage-point margin of error.

He should remain governor.

I don’t know why Trump bothers to campaign against him. There’s no reason to.

I think a large number of the people in Florida who do not want DeSantis to run for the Presidency, is conservatives that want to keep him as Florida’s governor. He is doing an excellent job there and the voters (even many moderate Democrats) want him to finish his term and keep building on what he has started.

Other GOP governors (looking at Kemp in Georgia for one) would do well in looking at DeSantis as an example to follow. Also, securing elections is what allowed other conservative policies to be implemented in Florida.

Still early. Many are like me and we see DeSantis the best guy to win the general election. Trump is great but he’s not going to get us out of the red zone and score.

Well of course he does. Ron DeSantis is a short term blip on the screen. Soon to be back doing his job as Governor of Florida where he’s supposed to be.

I like Ron DeSantis, I really do. As governor, he has been a couple of notches BETTER than Jeb Bush, with more resolve and discipline, and while both are of rather reticent personalities, modest, even, Ron DeSantis comes across as a more practical and effective leader of the legislature and the executive powers of the state of Florida.

Should DeSantis ever get into the race for President? Yes, but maybe not just yet. He still has a state to run until January 2027, and we need him here to keep the walls in place. Florida is a mecca for those who want to keep the dream of American federalism alive, and its example should be a guide for other states that waver on the verge of going purple or even blue, and thus into statism and even globalism.

DeSantis is a ivy-educated pussy. He thinks he can co-opt Trumps base by adopting the same policies but without attacking the Donald.

As demonstrated in 2016, the only way to beat Trump is to play his game and take him head on rather than worry about alienating his fans. I have yet to see anyone with guts get into the pit with Trump.

Agreed, and it would be an unpleasant surprise for primary voters if DeSantos got the nomination by some miracle.

Great points. The only reason the GOP still has a pulse left is because of Trump. If the establishment screws him over and denies him the nomination then it will be RIP Republican Party 1854-2024!

“I have yet to see anyone with guts get into the pit with Trump.”

* * *

Another lawyer by training, Ted Cruz, got into the pit with the Donald, and the contest didn’t last long — and Ted Cruz has superb debating skills. DeSantis, meanwhile, is more of a teleprompter style of pol like Obami.

Given election fraud, the Deep State, and a lousy economy, we really need an experienced fighter in our camp for 2024. And I’m concerned that Ron has allied himself with Fox News, the Bushies, and RINO donors.

In the end, though, I don’t think Ron will run against Trump because his chances of winning are very slim and it will end any hope he has of carrying the MAGA mantle in 2028. Today, Kari Lake looks like a better bet for 2028.
