It is going to be interesting to see the effect AI has on employment numbers over the next few years, especially in the technology sector.

The article notes the HR departments may be the first to be affected. I guess AI can replace the DIE department heads and scream "Diversity, Inclusion, and Equity" just as loud as any blue-haired and tatted white liberal.

Can AI replace paying customers?

The human resources (HR) sector will be replaced by non-humans. Sounds ominous.

“Diversity, Inclusion, and Equity” . Let’s rearrange those words “Diversity, Equity and Inclusion.” Aka D.I.E.

Educated jobs will be held by computers and labor jobs held by illegals. What are we supposed to do for work? Build the computers and ferry the illegals?

I used ChatGpt to construct a contract with a university in a project and it did as good a job as any lawyer and did it in 30 seconds. Legal and accounting work will absolutely be impacted.

The transition will happen gradually over the next few years, with machines potentially taking over up to 30% of noncustomer-facing roles in the five years.

Or as Hemingway said (roughly) in The Sun Also Rises, "The transition will happen gradually...then all at once."

If IBM is planning on replacing employees over the next five years, they are probably thinking of the current state of development of AI. In five years, AI will be light years ahead of where it is today. Even the CEO will be threatened with termination.

There is shortage of skilled workers in US
Learn skills which are in demand.
Both my kids have great jobs.

HR departments tend to be some of the most “woke” departments out there.

So we are going to see woke humans being replaced by woke AI.

Relax.
Microsoft can’t even make windows operating system without 900 updates. AI will have more bugs by orders of magnitude.
AI programmers are not rocket scientists.
It is over hyped just like cold fusion and cure for cancer.
That keeps research & development funds rolling in.

The problem is that AI developers are using AI to increase its speed of advancement exponentially.

I have been using it over the last month and it is already changing dramatically.

Systems are already being created for doctors, lawyers, tax accountants/lawyers wherein their entire respective systems of knowledge (medical textbooks, journals, research papers, legal codes, case law, tax law) can be consumed by AI and returned to them by asking simple questions.

I don’t think Jo Jo the Demented Pedo clown is going to be around long enough to carry these younger generations into their “golden years.” They’ll all be turning mom and pop’s basement into a bed and breakfast joint.

Imagine an AI lawyer that instantly knows the legality or illegality of something anywhere. Or imagine patent attorney work or even protecting a patent.

The patent issue is fascinating to me because AI might not only find patent infringement, for example, it could construct a case on it and fight against it across countries.

Anything that’s intellectual that has a large knowledge base is on the table. An “attorney” that has a 100% photographic memory and can instantly work through the a topic is very powerful.

Even skilled jobs will be replaced, maybe quicker than non-skilled jobs. People who trained in highly skilled areas will be at risk in 5-10 years, too.

A little fanciful speculation here.

Think of AI giving us what I call the “Star Trek Economy”.
What’s “Star Trek Economy”? Did you ever see anyone in all the Star Trek iterations with a job - particularly a private sector job? Maybe one episode?

Before we think that’s wonderful, let’s just think about the social chaos & dysfunction that taking away the American Indian livelihood caused in their society. A little closer to our times - loss of blue-collar jobs & the removal of the need of a breadwinner in the urban centers. Think of that continuing chaos! Now that’s currently being repeated in flyover country with the loss of blue-collar jobs. The growing chaos, strikingly similar to the urban version is mostly white. Proves these things have nothing to do with race! We see the same rise of social ills crime, drugs, etc. we have in the inner cities!

I think the “Star Trek Economy” will cause a social explosion the likes you have never seen!

That’s the threat of AI not “Colossus - The Forbin Project” (SciFi film)! AI being used to replace jobs & then coupled with the government’s handling of it & the social problems compounding it.

People need to work and maintain some independence from Uncle Sucker!

I don't buy it. Salesforce is only taking incremental steps towards AI. NetSuite's accounting service isn't particularly robust with AI.

No, this red-dot poonjabber is canning 8K and deflecting by blaming AI, typical upper-caste behavior, and probably what he was hired for during the pandemic.
