Utah Republican Sen. Mitt Romney appears to back Democrat Sen. Joe Manchin in the West Virginia U.S. Senate race over someone from his own party.
Following the news of West Virginia Gov. Jim Justice (R) filing paperwork to run for the U.S. Senate on Thursday ahead of an expected official announcement later in the day, Romney appears to support the Democrat over a Republican.
When asked if he would support Justice in the U.S. Senate election as Republican Sens. Lindsey Graham (SC) and Shelley Moore Capito (WV) have implied they will, the Utah senator told CNN, “I won’t in any way campaign against my friend Joe Manchin. He’s a great friend, a good leader.”
Unlike Romney, Graham told CNN, “I like Joe, but I think I’d rather have a Republican who’s going to be a more reliable vote. Joe Manchin is a wonderful fellow, I think Jim Justice is a winner.” Similarly to Graham, Capito said, “This is about control of the U.S. Senate, and that’s my focus here.”

Remember when Manchin endorsed Murkowski and they said they would endorse each other for reelection.
Romney is going for the same deal, for he too is up for reelection next year.
So Romney will support Manchin and Manchin will likely suport Romney as he did Murkowski.
Because Democrats support fellow Democrats. Romney's voting record is identical to Murkowski's.
Mittens is a democrat.
If he added in the anger and nasty personality, he really
would be the old John McCain all over again.
Well, John did wield more power he had developed over the
years too though.
Can’t these RINOs take a look at policy, and see how bad
it has or will hurt our nation? They’re just too stupid
to be in Washington, D.C., and the people of Utah look so
bad for continuing to send the guy back there.
Are they really that happy to look like California as
much as they do with this guy?
Capito is a RINO, almost as bad as Romney. If she failed to "endorse" Jim Justice for Senate, it would be the end of her political career. She's not invulnerable.
Mittens needs a reality check.
He has too much influential power that he has survived on thru all these years.
Taking a seat in Wash DC is chump change for him
and to what may I ask?
As C. S. Lewis put it in “The Last Battle,” the dwarfs are for the dwarfs.
I kind of doubt that Romnut’s endorsement will be helpful to poor mixed up Joe.
So it’s not about steering the country in the right direction, pushing for conservative ideas, it’s about who his friends are?
In other words the "Uniparty" is no longer "a debunked conspiracy theory".
He is a piece of 💩
I know West Virginia fairly well and I really doubt that there are more than five people, if that, who will change their vote for Manchin bc of what this draft-dodging boob says.
Pure pos
You may.
😆 🙋 Hi old timer nice to hear from you again 📌
I think Manchin runs for president. I wouldn’t be surprised to see muffin or another rino as his vp.
Brings memories of 1992. House Minority Leader Michels (R-IL) said on talk radio that we should alll support Al-the-Pal in the Dem primary because (my words) he gave crumbs from the table to Michels.
Good government Republicans (mostly far right) went into the 1992 Dem primary and voted en masse for Carole Moseley Braun in protest of the Republican leader. Braun won the primary with that conservative Republican support. The Republicans had put up a nice, naive big donor so Braun easily won in November.
6 years later, while all the pro-lifers abandoned the Republican party and not support pro-lifer Peter Fitzgerald, all the good government Democrats....and the trade unions left the Democrat Party and made Peter Fitzgerald the Republican Primary winner ... and those good government Democrats and labor union types made the difference in November.
In that primary probably 1/3 of each party flipped and voted in the primary of the other party on both sides. It was a fun time.
Those who think most voters are tied to one party are not in touch with reality. If given a reason and that reason is well communicated, voters will vote for the candidate in the other party.
In my IL suburb of Hangover Park, Voters flipped from 85% Democrat to 87% Republican based on the candidates and the way they ran their campaigns.
Not surprising from the 2012 Republican nominee.
Also, he voted to remove a Republican President in both impeachment farce #1 & impeachment farce #2.
Romney is a backstabbing POS.
HOW many more months will UTAH put up with MITTENS???
Someone please kneecap this POS.
