Last Post - click Come home! Come home! The last post is sounding for you to hear. All good soldiers know very well there is nothing to fear while they do what is right, and forget all the worries they have met in their duties through the year. A soldier cannot always be great, but he can be a gentleman and he can be a right good pal to his comrades in his squad. So all you soldiers listen to this - Deal fair by all and you’ll never be amiss.
Canteen Mission Statement
Showing support and boosting the morale of our military and our allies military and the family members of the above. Honoring those who have served before.
ANZAC War Memorial, Sydney, Australia Anzac Day is commemorated by Australia and New Zealand on 25 April every year to remember members of the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps (ANZAC) who landed at Gallipoli in Turkey during World War I. Anzac Day is also observed in the Cook Islands, Niue, and Tonga. It is no longer observed as a national holiday in Samoa. Anzac Day marks the anniversary of the first major military action fought by Australian and New Zealand forces during the First World War. The acronym ANZAC stands for Australian and New Zealand Army Corps, whose soldiers were known as Anzacs. The pride they took in that name endures to this day, and Anzac Day remains one of the most important national occasions of both Australia and New Zealand. When war broke out in 1914, Australia had been a Federal Commonwealth for only thirteen years. In 1915, Australian and New Zealand soldiers formed part of an Allied expedition that set out to capture the Gallipoli Peninsula to open the way to the Black Sea for the Allied navies. The plan was to capture Istanbul, capital of the Ottoman Empire and an ally of Germany. The ANZAC force landed at Gallipoli on 25 April, meeting fierce resistance from the Turkish defenders. What had been planned as a bold strike to knock Turkey out of the war quickly became a stale-mate, and the campaign dragged on for eight months. At the end of 1915, the Allied forces were evacuated after both sides had suffered heavy casualties and endured great hardships. Over 8,000 Australian and 2,700 New Zealand soldiers died. News of the landing at Gallipoli made a profound impact on Australians and New Zealanders at home and 25 April quickly became the day on which they remembered the sacrifice of those who had died in war. Though the Gallipoli campaign failed in its military objectives of capturing Istanbul and knocking Turkey out of the war, the Australian and New Zealand troops' actions during the campaign bequeathed an intangible but powerful legacy. The creation of what became known as an "Anzac legend" became an important part of the national identity in both countries. This shaped the ways they viewed both their past and their future. More ANZAC Day information Australian poet Banjo Paterson wrote the words to "Waltzing Matilda" in January 1895 while staying at Dagworth Station, a sheep and cattle station near Winton in Central West Queensland owned by the Macpherson family. The words were written to a tune played on a zither or autoharp by 31‑year‑old Christina Macpherson, one of the family members at the station. Waltzing Matilda - click

Hey there, Kathy.
It was a little warmer than yesterday but there was a stiff, chilly wind blowing that made it uncomfortable. At least it was sunny.
Oh no! Geese have found the “buffet” in your back yard? You don’t need them hanging around, eating the ducks’ food. OR leaving their nasty messes behind. Good luck getting them to leave and stay away.
We have a lot of them here that live on the lake year-round but they don’t land in the yard, fortunately. They do like to land in the fields after harvest to eat the grain that fell to the ground. Get a hundred of them or so and it’s really raucous outside.

OMG! A 100? They are loud, and messy, and they land on my roof first, with a thud.
Skies are still clear overhead.

Sometimes there can be that many, if not more. As fields are harvested, they fly around looking for food and when one flock sees others eating, they land to join them. It can get pretty crazy at times.
Hearing one land on your roof must make you jump. That’s a lotta bird.

Hey there, radu!
Yes, after a good night’s sleep and a nice nap this afternoon, I feel way better. Amazing how one early wake-up call can ruin a week. LOL!
Are things warming up there? Have you checked those little corn seedlings to see if they’re getting stronger? Is tonight the night it’s supposed to frost up? Looks like it’s going to get pretty chilly tonight for you.

Yup, early mornings are tough for us night owls. LOL At least we’re able to rebound quickly.
It was a little warmer today but there was a stiff, chilly wind all day. Tomorrow should be better.
No, I didn’t check the corn seedlings. That field is 2/3 of the way to the museum, not close by. They’re probably fine, though, since we didn’t get frost last night. Clouds moved in and kept the temp from dropping much. It’ll get cold again tonight but again, clouds are moving in and that helps.
The fella with the field across the road has been spraying it all day to kill the weeds. He’s still out there now. He needs to invest in larger equipment. His stuff is really too small for all the acreage he’s farming and he works alone. He’s a hard-worker though.

So glad it didn’t freeze. I hope the guy across the road has a bumper crop of whatever he plants...let it NOT be cotton....so he can invest in better equipment!
It seems that we’re going to have two days of 80s followed by 70. About the same as last week. 84 isn’t awful and the kitties will be happy little campers.

There was never a freeze warning last night. Just the frost advisory. There’s another advisory tonight but it’s for the mountains, not us. It’ll still be right nippy.
The guy across the road will put out corn this year in that field. He has another large one on the other side of the highway that will have soybeans. He told me when we spoke last year that I don’t have to worry about him ever planting cotton. He hates it too. LOL
He’s still out there and it’s after 1 a.m. The headlights on his spraying rig shine through the window every now and then.

Did you and Gizmo have the lake to yourselves yesterday or did you have to share with more fishermen?

We did have the lake to ourselves for the most part. There was one guy fishing at the lake house dock but other than that all went well.
We have rain in the forecast for much of the day today. We'll see what happens.

One fisherman isn’t too big a deal. He took up just a little space and left all the rest for you and Gizmo. :-)
Maybe you’ll get lucky and the rain will hold off until after your outing.

He’s probably got his music turned up loud and is enjoying his time out there in the fields he loves. I’m sure glad he hates cotton, too! LOL!
And whoops! I just looked at the clock. Guess I’d better scoot off to beddy-bye. See ya tomorrow for the quiz. How come Tuesdays come around so quickly? LOL!

Whatever he was doing to stay awake, I saw him finally pull out and head up the road to his house just before 2:00. That was a long day for him. But I assume he wanted to get it all finished before it rains, and we have rain chances every day the rest of the week. Slight today but higher chances the rest of the week.
When he told me he hates cotton and would never plant it, I let out an emphatic, “THANK YOU!” and he cracked up.
You did stay up mighty late. Must have been a good show you were watching. LOL Sleep late.

You ARE an early bird this morning, aren’t you?
Glad I took one more peek before shutting things down and heading off to the bat cave for some zzzzzz’s. I rarely get to “see” you.

I’m guessing you have disappeared to your bat cave but I was away doing a few chores.
I’m an early riser but in lurker mode.
Loving this cooler weather for my walks.
