CLIVE, Iowa — Mulling a 2024 presidential campaign based on appealing to the moderate middle, former Rep. Will Hurd spent Saturday speaking to a group of the Republican Party's most orthodox religious conservatives.
"It takes a village to win, right?" the former Texas congressman told Insider in an interview before his address to the Iowa Faith and Freedom Coalition's Annual Spring Kick-off. "I'm here to see if Iowa agrees that we're better together."
The annual gathering, long a magnet for Republican presidential candidates seeking to court the party's evangelical right, included appearances by several declared and potential candidates for the 2024 GOP presidential nomination, including former President Donald Trump.
Hurd, in Iowa for the first time, spoke to the crowd near the beginning of the event between appearances by former Vice President Mike Pence and former Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson.
And in contrast to several of the other speakers, many of which spoke in ominous tones about transgender issues and critiques of the "woke" left, Hurd led with an upbeat message largely free of culture war touchpoints.

He probably wants a "kinder, gentler" Republican party.
Does he have a book coming out? Or perhaps he’ll use his run as an audition for a slot on Fox. That’s the only reason for someone like him to run.
They are really splitting up that 1% market share, aren’t they?
Sorry…who? 🤣
No thank you Will McRomBush
I have never Hurd of him either…
The stupid party ONCE AGAIN slitting their own damn throats as usual! Honestly, I’m beginning to believe they do not want to win. They are part of the swamp and what aches the American citizens. The evil rats know how to play the winning game. One reason I no longer belong to the backstabbing POS RNC party! From here on, I will vote for those that represent my needs. And I will continue to support only Trump. The rest are dead to me.
His bank account may not support his lifestyle any longer. A cool million would sure help things along. There are enough suckers with money that will donate that much or more. What other reason would this no name run?
local politics is full of them to, they go to rural counties and make "con-servative" sonuding speeches to get elected, then once in they rear their ugly leftist head bringing hell to bear with things like "affordable housing" and "zoning reform"
He is the guy who was ex-CIA and that won a seat in Texas.
Going from memory I don’t think he was much good politically himself but his winning that seat in that first election was a great freak deal for the GOP, because the dems had owned it forever or something.
Also, I think he is black.
LOL. Hurd represented the one next to mine. He’s a turd and a trans-repug. Demorat pretending to be a repug.
Who? This clown has no chance of getting to one percent of the vote in a primary poll.
RIP Will Hurd's Campaign.
Yes, Will, run and your VP candidate should be Liz Cheney. I believe you might draw crowds of half as many as Biden.. 🤓
There’s an opening at DeadFox News..

Nah, it was Henry Bonilla’s (R) old district which he held from 1992-2006. Hurd defeated a 1-term Democrat incumbent in the GOP landslide of 2014. Hurd never got to even 50% of the vote once, yet squeaked out 3 terms. He started off as a squishy moderate, and moved further to the left with each passing term. Good riddance.
IIRC he also declared that the GOP would not win that district again without himself on the ticket. In 2 elections since then, the Republicans are 2-0 in that district. Unfortunately, the current incumbent, Tony Gonzales, is Will Hurd 2.0 — another conservative-hating, far-left “Republican”.
Maybe it was the polling that year, there was some reason why that district was supposed to be a loss for the Republicans that year.
Never heard of Hurd.
Don’t many others have either.
