These bans are silly. No one can define what an assault weapon is. Furthermore, assuming an assault weapon is a firearm, it is unconstitutional to ban a firearm. Too bad the NRA is incapable of pointing this out to the anti-gun crowd.

Good news. However, even if it had passed there's always that unanimous SCOTUS decision of a few years ago "Caetano v Massachusetts". The court made clear that states can't decide which firearms are legal and which are illegal.

A 9-0 vote.

That SCOTUS decision has not done one bit to help eliminate the bans in CT and MA.

A frying pan is a potential assault weapon.

I don't know much about this stuff but IIRC in order for a state law to be overturned by the federal courts an actual lawsuit must be filed in Federal court challenging its constitutionality, detailing the reason for the challenge.

Federal lawsuits are expensive, difficult and time consuming.

Cases are making their way through the courts. Many of the cases cite Caetano.

I am always reminded of the first AW ban bill in California. They managed to get lever action rifles banned. So much opposition was made against the bill the lever action ban was removed, and the bill shelved.

I said “Look out! There will be a mass murder in California soon!” And there was.

The State released Pat Purdy from a mental institution, allowed him to violate state and federal laws on buying guns, even passing the waiting period.

He then went and shot up the Stockton school yard killing several students and himself.

The shelved bill was pulled out and passed before any opposition could be mounted against it.

Now watch the same for Colorado!

--thanks--

(from the article, quoting from a dunce)

""I go to homicide scenes and I see the terrible results of injuries caused by handguns. But at least with handguns, there’s an entry wound and an exit wound and the body is generally intact other than those small wounds," McCann said. "If a person is killed by an assault weapon, the body is essentially blown apart." “Assault weapons are designed for killing, not for self-defense," added Peter Gurfein of Giffords Gun Owners for Safety. "The damage done by high velocity shells by these firearms is horrific and disproportionately used in mass shootings."

I prefer a clear plastic Bic pen with the ink tube removed and the end broken off so it’s jagged. Sold in most stores for under a buck, no background check required, allowed in schools, courthouses, banks, and on airplanes, TSA approved.
Stuck in the jugular it could drain a body of blood quickly.
Everything is dangerous if used that way.

What is an assault rifle? There is no legal definition of it. It is too broad of a definition and will be abused.

“Assault weapons are designed for killing, not for self-defense,"

WHUT??!!??

If I am defending myself (or someone else) I damn sure do not want to take the chance that the attacker is going to somehow still be able to get to me and do me harm.

You betcha I'm gonna kill them!

Colorado HB 23-1230 "Assault Weapons Ban" has failed to pass and was indefinitely postponed from further consideration by the Committee. It is probably dead in the 2023 legislative session.

See "http://leg.colorado.gov/" for the official status.

The Democrats did however pass four other "Gun Control" laws during the fracas of the hearings.

These were:
