After high-flying start, DeSantis hits stumbling blocks on road to 2024

The governor, who began the year with momentum, is now confronting a considerably more difficult path as he prepares to launch a national campaign

-----------

Republican megadonor Ken Langone is eager to support Ron DeSantis for president in 2024. But he has some concerns about the Florida governor as he prepares to enter the race.

Langone didn’t like that DeSantis signed a six-week abortion ban and wants him to moderate his stance on the issue. It wouldn’t hurt for DeSantis to “be a little more conciliatory” in his demeanor, he suggested. And Langone worries about the resurgence of former president Donald Trump,

“It scares the hell out of me,” he said of Trump’s growing dominance in the polls.

A few months ago, DeSantis was celebrating his landslide reelection to chants of “two more years!” as enthusiastic fans begged him to run for president. But that momentum has rapidly cooled, confronting DeSantis with a considerably more difficult political outlook for the campaign he is expected to launch after the Florida legislative session ends in May.

Donors, activists and other supporters are increasingly voicing worries that DeSantis has made unforced errors or embraced extreme positions that could hurt him in a general election, including the abortion ban he signed last week. He’s had to clarify comments on Ukraine that prompted some criticism in the party. He has struck some Republicans as distant in personal interactions. And Trump has relentlessly attacked DeSantis and expanded his lead over the governor in national polls, while accruing a string of influential endorsements in Florida and beyond.

I posted this on a different thread:

D Trump isn't the only person capable of 4D chess. What a perfect opportunity to fleece the GOPe for a war chest for 2028 by playing on their TDS. That even leaves open the possibility that the Don and RDS are playing this together. Not to mention the FL legislature.

Think about it. How better to maintain support for Trump during the latest witch-hunt by the deep state. RDS deflects attention from the pending persecution, while gaining more national exposure, getting Squishies on record for supporting him, and screwing them in the end in 28. All these negative RDS vs Trump polls (the only positive polls show RDS beating Biden) allow DeSantis to bow out of the primaries (which he still has never declared) without getting pummeled by Trump. Mark my words, if this is true, Ron will never enter the running in 24 and will endorse Trump, and Trump will seemingly be back in love with Ron.

Democrats are scared schittless of DeSantis

There’s a journo-list type campaign from the media to gaslight everyone that his popularity is waning

He also gets all the benefits of “running” while not actually officially declaring. Lotsa media attention calling attention to his FL MAGA policies giving them national recognition. Making the primary rounds (DC, New Hampshire, South Carolina) and flushing out the GOPe while finding MAGA allies. All without spending the war chest he just conned the GOPe out of.

DeSantis doesn’t have a prayer and never did. He thought that having billionaires flattering him was the same as the public supporting him. Nope. It was just oligarchs looking for a pet.

To my thinking the two of them together would be the perfect match. I pray that Trump realizes that. D’S as V.P. this go around and get educated to be president in 28. I like to think they both know that. D’S is too “green” to run for president yet.

Thats what we thought of 'Race Bannon' Pence during the first few months of POTUS 45.

To me it seems like the perfect match for both of them. It’s serendipity and the very thing the USA needs to get a hold on the failing or falling of the country.

Don’t get me wrong. It would not bother me if they teamed up. But I also didn’t mind Pence right up till he started stabbing Trump in the back, which was quite a feat considering his spinelessness.

Saint DeSantis ego would never allow him to be an underdog of Trump or anybody’s VP for that matter.

2024 is not about personalities or policies. Rather its about ballots.

Dems win on ballots. Pubs don’t even understand the game.

His so called momentum/popularity was mostly the result of being surrounded by yes men and never-Trump (globalist) potential donors. Donors whose only goal is the defeat of Trump...NOT the promotion of Saint DeSantis.

It's good that DeSantis is being tested now.

He will be better prepared to run in 2028. We need someone like him after Trump's second term.

DeSantis will be great for 28, but not before 24.
