Netflix accused of ‘blackwashing’ Cleopatra: ‘She was light-skinned’

Egyptian experts have criticized Netflix for “blackwashing” its upcoming docu-series about Queen Cleopatra VII.

Now, they’re taking action to see that the show never airs — by banning the streaming giant from the country completely.

“African Queens: Queen Cleopatra” is narrated and executive produced by Jada Pinkett Smith, 51, and stars Adele James, 27, who is biracial, as the legendary queen of Egypt, whose specific race has long been the subject of historical dispute.

Pinkett Smith previously explained that she wanted to be involved in the project because she “really wanted to represent Black women.”

But Egyptologist Zahi Hawass, who previously served as the nation’s antiquities minister, is not happy with the “completely fake” portrayal of the famous queen, who he claims was wholly Greek — and “not black.” He’s accused Netflix of “trying to provoke confusion by spreading false and deceptive facts that the origin of the Egyptian civilization is black.”

“Cleopatra was Greek, meaning that she was light-skinned, not black,” the archaeologist told the Al-Masry al-Youm newspaper, per a BBC report on Wednesday.

That’s a stage play. Or even a movie with distortion of history like Braveheart is somewhat okay if made explicitly clear that it is based on not true to, the history.

This here is called a documentary.

That us to be held to higher standards of truth

She lives life according to Jada Smith - she is her own God.

She wanted to piggy back the historical Cleopatra with a counterfeit.

Woke is behind all of it. You can’t let any of it go. Slippery slope.

Isn't Ariel THE LITTLE MERMAID?

If so, it most assuredly is NOT "a Disney character" to do with as it pleases, since it is based on Scandinavian legend and written by Hans Christian Anderson! It is Anderson's character, since he is the first and ONLY one to write the story!

Cinderellas and Snow White are likewise NOT "Disney characters" at all, either, as there are over 500 different Cinderella stories world wide, all of which have their origins in the Ancient Greek myth Eros and Pysche AND both the German and the French versions are THE most well known now.

Tinkerbell is a Victorian/Edwardian BRIT fictional character.

And what Disney did to the Princess and The Frog is reprehensible; not to mention disgusting.

NO, she's the disney retelling of Hans Christian Anderson's tale. In the original Hans Christian Anderson story the mermaid was nameless

And note that the original story was also a "story" - fiction. So the Mermaid could be played by anyone else - a black, chinese, white, whatever person

And Hans wrote the story himself, it's not based on Scandanavian legend

Disney's stories utterly changed the story of the little mermaid (Hans' story ain't happy) and the same for the Disneyfied Cinderella and Snow White.

When I saw Jada Pinkett Smith produced it, I knew it was a farce.

The person who thinks it’s real funny when her husband slaps the host of the Oscars. Will Smith should have been thrown out of the show.

I don’t believe historical accuracy has anything to do with it. Pinkett Smith just wanted a black actress playing Cleopatra. Since she put up the money, she gets a black actress.

I haven’t seen the program, but this type of stuff doesn’t bother me. Even if they claim its a documentary, its entertainment. I mean, come on. Its Netflix. There is nothing serious or scholarly about what they do. And when it comes to entertainment, it doesn’t bother me if they have a black actor playing a white role. Same with Netflix’s Charlotte series. I don’t car that they have a black actress as Queen Charlotte. None of this is about historical accuracy. Its about entertainment. No historical movie ever has been about accuracy. Ever single one of them imports modern ideas into the script. Think about something like Gladiator. I almost laughed out loud in the theater when the Marcus Aurelius character said he wanted Maximus to bring democracy back to Rome. You just have to roll with it and judge it on its entertainment value.

Ok it was off the top of my head. I didn’t check.
Consider Ahmose, son of Ebana, an Egyptian warrior who served under Nebpehtrya Ahmose (1539–1514 BC), the following taken from the autobiographical inscriptions on the walls of his tomb-chapel, the Egyptians undertook campaigns to defeat Kush and conquer Nubia under the rule of Amenhotep I (1514–1493 BC). In Ahmose’s writings, the Kushites are described as archers, “Now after his Majesty had slain the Bedoin of Asia, he sailed upstream to Upper Nubia to destroy the Nubian bowmen.” The tomb writings contain two other references to the Nubian bowmen of Kush. So, I took all that to mean from a geographic standpoint roughly the same.

I didn’t say Ptolemaic rule didn’t!

Cleopatra’s line continued through one of her daughters, where Cleopatra Selene II was wed to Juba II of Numidia. There are claims Queen Zenobia of Palmyra was descendent.

“At the end of the movie they showed the movie characters’ pictures next to the pics of the real people involved. The two BLACK heroes in the movie were ... WHITE.”

So I wasn’t the only one who noticed that:

Another brain washing thing going on along with the homosexual thing: I watched “On a Wing and a Prayer” last night on Prime. There were several black characters that to me just didn’t fit. Two of them were heroic traffic controllers. Since this was a true story, at the end they had pictures of the real people involved. Much to my surprise, none of the real people were black.

“So I wasn’t the only one who noticed that.”

Nope; you weren’t the only one. It was flagrant, and I was immediately pissed off! I wonder how the real people who were replaced by black actors feel about it. Other than this Big Lie, the movie was very good.

This morning I was telling my neighbor lady about it. She said she and her husband would like to watch it. She also said she’ll turn it off before the ending credits come on; otherwise her hubby might have a heart attack ‘cause he’ll be so angry.

This has been happening for a while, but in reverse. I used to watch a lot of true crime series. At the end, when the pics were shown of the real people who were involved, the WHITE criminal in the show turned out to be black or hispanic.
