Woke healthcare social-justice warriors seeking to end systemic racism by supposedly dismantling white supremacy in medicine have now implemented new policies that have made race and skin color a deciding factor in who can receive life-saving kidney transplants.
The Organ Procurement and Transplantation Network (OPTN) and the United Network for Organ Sharing (UNOS) are the latest of numerous medical associations to embrace the idea that medicine is overflowing with racism and inequity. Their new policy on kidney transplants, according to City Journal, “is perhaps the most dangerous victory for wokeness in health care to date.”
“In the name of ‘equity,’ UNOS and OPTN purport to be expanding black patients’ access to kidney transplants. They essentially claim that the longstanding system for such transplants is racist, pointing to how black patients make up 30 percent of the dialysis population and transplant wait list but receive a smaller fraction of kidney transplants,” wrote Stanley Goldfarb, chairman of Do No Harm and City Journal contributor.
OPTN and UNOS instituted the new policies because they believed black kidney transplant candidates were disadvantaged by previous use of the race-inclusive estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) calculation to estimate level of kidney function.
Jerry McCauley, M.D., M.P.H., president of UNOS, said in an announcement, “we and many other organizations have now prohibited the use of a race-based calculation that has unfairly delayed care for many Black patients with kidney failure. Waiting time for a transplant is a major factor in the priority that kidney candidates receive. Thus, we are acting along with kidney transplant programs nationwide to ensure that any candidates known to have been disadvantaged by a race inclusive GFR calculation will receive all the waiting time credit for which they qualify.”

I’ve been commenting to relatives and friends for over 10 years that the quality of the medical professions is going down and will continue to do so. And when you reflect on it, it’s easy to see that in the name of “social justice” and other deceptive euphemisms many fields of professional expertise where excellence was formerly the recognized standard have now become seriously degraded. A recent example that’s going to be a cause of increasing concern is the erosion of standards in the critical areas of commercial airline flight and maintenance personnel.

They have medical criteria for getting organs, and some re behavioral
If you don’t follow them, they won’t give you a transplant
Like if you don’t lose a certain amount of weight beforehand
If you keep regularly (or more) drinking alcohol you don’t get liver or kidney transplants
Has zip to do with race, they bar whites and everyone else from transplants if they don’t follow the rules
Sometimes the stats indicate a group is unable to control themselves and its not racism at all

I can report on this as an eyewitness observer.
I was employed as a repair technician in a hemodialysis clinic for a number of years.
Most patients were black.
Most were indigent care.
God bless Mr Fresenius. He and his company developed the machines that have saved or extended countless lives.

I would be mad as a wet hen if they were talking about my ethnicity. I am shocked at how the Black community will let I Jackson, Obama and social tell everyone they can’t figure out how to get ID to vote.

I was a dialysis patient in my twenties, and I had a lot of black patients on my shift. It was still majority white due to the area I lived in at the time, but there was still a good percentage of black patients and a handful of Hispanics. Most of the patients overall were diabetic (not me), and a lot were terribly overweight. There was a tiny minority of people who were just old, and their kidneys decided to croak. I and a friend I made on my shift both have the same auto-immune disorder.
I was waiting for this to happen, and I now fear not only the day I need another transplant, but I’m scared to go back to nursing school thanks to the bullsh¡t I know they’re going to try to spoon feed me.
Slowly we are seeing the demonization of the white race. In the late 20’s and early thirties the Nazis did just this with the jews. Giving their blessings and ok to the local police in countries occupied to do their dirty work of eliminating the problem. Think they cant find their armies to do this? This is the start

Glad you mentioned that. Two years ago a bridge close to my home that I have to cross several times everyday was rebuilt. When finished, it was obvious that the geniuses who engineered it miscalculated its elevation relative to the road surface, so it was at least an inch higher than the road. Consequently going on to it felt like you had jumped a curb, and going off of it had the opposite effect. About a year later the road department had to re-asphalt 20 feet of the road on both sides to cure the problem!
That was always the plan, The problem is that the state did not follow through to make the roadway paving change in a timely manner.

I’m thinking of now taking myself and my family off as organ donors (on driver’s license)in case anything happens to me.
My cousin needed a kidney transplant so he joined an exchange group - he found a suitable kidney within the group - another family member donated one of his kidneys to another family in the group, etc.
Wonder if this will be dismantled as well as “racist” since all the members of the group are White?
