Tornado alley is expanding — and scientists don’t know why

Tornadoes are becoming more frequent in populated parts of the United States and are often occurring as damaging clusters — a development seen in recent deadly outbreaks from Alabama to Michigan.

The number, damage and deadliness of individual tornadoes has held roughly steady over the past 50 years, federal experts with the National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration told The Hill.

But broad shifts in the patterns of how tornadoes occur will pose serious challenges to policymakers and emergency managers across the South and Midwest — even as risks remain in the traditional heart of Tornado Alley.

And now you have countless number of tornado chasers who document every single tornado, even the ones that never hit any populated areas. How many of those tornadoes used to go undetected?

It’s caused by the movement of the magnetic north pole.

more frequent in populated parts

The hyperbole in this article is laughable.

One reason tornadoes may be 'more frequent in populated parts' is that small towns and small cities have grown in the last 50 years.

Heck, my town was 8,400 fifteen years ago and is nearly 25,000 now. Some small tornadoes have touched the area -- that fifteen years ago was pasture; today is residential.

But, climate change -- yada yada yada. [Per an article yesterday, there will likely be fewer major hurricanes this season. Go figure.]

You mean Trump and/or Global warming/cooling isn’t making it expand?

Because “weather” is uncontrollable and can and will do whatever it wants, whenever it wants.

Just because weather has done something for years doesn’t mean it will always continue to do so.

When "scientists don't know why," the only possible explanations are Trump, and global warming.

Nahum 1:3 ►

The LORD is slow to anger, and great in power, and will not at all acquit the wicked: the LORD hath his way in the whirlwind and in the storm, and the clouds are the dust of his feet.

The reason is simple: Despite the hundreds of millions given to Fat Albert Gore, he refuses to give us better weather.

It is an AMAZING coincidence..... as weather radars and monitoring devices improve, more storms are occurring. Who would have thunk it?

Exactly. More people have moved into areas that weren’t occupied much at all in the past. Also, they now declare tornadoes based on computer models and radar, not actually sighted tornadoes.

Tornadoes have high winds. Stay away from them if you can.

Tornado Alley is “expanding” because people are resisting the planned de-industrialization, therefore the fear-mongering narrative demands it.

There is that. But I think it is because we have not knuckled down and paid reparations to the descendants of slaves yet.

And better tech that shows rotation in storm structure that never becomes a tornado.

Our local weather guy who has been around for many decades says it’s a normal pattern that shifts every so often to the east and gives us some relief before returning as normal.

The rest of that crap is all a scam

Did you even read it? They are not blaming climate change. They confess they don’t know the reason why tornadoes are moving east and coming in clusters more offten.

“The role to which climate change is a factor in these shifts is unknown, and the changes in tornado behavior overall represent a major meteorological mystery. “

“While it’s tempting to blame any change since the 1970s on a hotter climate, ‘we don’t have the physical links that go from, If the planet warms, oh, that means we should be having more variability,’ Brooks said. “

“Other theories attribute the change in tornado patterns to deeper, less understood patterns in the Earth’s ocean and atmosphere. Scientists have proposed that the change could be driven by shifts in decades-long cycles in the atmospheric and oceanic currents; in shifts in atmospheric waves; or the increased ‘wobbliness’ of the jet stream. “

It's because you are allowed to enjoy the fruits of your own labor. Obviously.
