Teachers ignored a five year-old boy as he lay dying in a school playground because they thought he was just playing dead for fun, a lawsuit filed by the youngster's parents claims.

Romeo Pierre Louis died at Charter Oak International Academy in West Hartford, Connecticut, in April 2022 after collapsing with a rare heart condition.

Last week, his grieving parents filed a lawsuit against the school, claiming the youngster may have survived had it not been for their negligence.

It is amazing the number of children being diagnosed with "rare" heart conditions, but only after death.

The staff in this situation were negligent. No child has the patience to "play dead" for more that a few seconds, and certainly not for nine minutes.

Unfortunately, lawyers see youngsters as the smallest of lawsuit “successes”...

“Rare” is becoming as meaningless as “expert” these days. Rare is more and more common and experts are perpetually wrong.

I said “no child has the patience...”, I should have qualified that with the phrase “at that age” as it applies to active children that age and especially boys.

Once when my youngest grand-daughter was about two, she was mad at her Papa for telling her “no” about something. She plopped down on the sofa and closed her eyes and went perfectly still. My husband just ignored her. After about a minute, when she hadn’t moved or opened her eyes, he became worried. He called her name and she didn’t even twitch. Another 15 seconds he scooped her up in his arms. She went totally limp. He called her name and shook her a bit. Nothing. Then he tickled her in the ribs and she started wiggling, laughing and opened her eyes. He was becoming frantic at first.

However, he became worried in a minute and frantic by a minute and a half. He didn’t ignore her.

As if a 5 year old can play dead for 9 minutes. And why would the teacher allow kids to play dead. I think the parents have a case.

Especially given the issues with CoupFlu vaxxes.

I wonder if that’s ehy the teachers ignored the child.

The teachers know the parents can’t sue the people who shot up the kid, or the makers of the vaxx, and figured they’d be blamed instead.

Now they’ll be blamed anyway for refusing to exercise due diligence.

Worst part is the state likely has a Good Samaritan law that would protect them from civil suits.

If this was due to a vaxx related issue, everyone in that child’s life let him down.

Prayers for the little boy.

In high school, I hit my knee on a desk on the way out of a business course. My patella went sideways, and down I went. The only other person in the room was the teacher who didn’t respond immediately when I asked for help because my knee was out. After repeating my knee situation, she took a look and then went into action. Later, she apologized to me saying that she thought I was faking it for some sort of drama class purpose. Poor woman, I have to wonder what pranks other students pulled on her to make her think one of her quietest students would do such a thing.

Who doesn’t check on a child lying still on the ground?

If the kid had shouted that he was transgender they would have come running.

It is amazing the number of children being diagnosed with "rare" heart conditions, but only after death.

Kid was born with a genetic defect: channelopathy brugada syndrome

An autopsy revealed the cause of death was cardiac channelopathy brugada syndrome.

The syndrome is a rare but potentially life-threatening cardiac condition that affects the normal electrical function of the heart.

It leads leads to abnormal heart rhythms, which can cause sudden cardiac arrest, particularly during sleep or while at rest.

People with Brugada syndrome may have no symptoms or experience symptoms such as fainting, palpitations, or cardiac arrest but may be diagnosed following a routine electrocardiogram (ECG) or after experiencing symptoms.

Teachers ignored a five year-old boy

as he lay dying

in a school playground because on their cell phones they....

...were sexting with 3rd graders ?

Helping counseling 4th graders picking their trans names and pronouns ?

Ordering chest binders from Amazon on their cell phones ?

Scheduling sex change surgeries for 2nd graders ?

Who knows, what they were not doing was.watching out for the safety and we’ll being of the kids on the playground.

Sue the whole place into abject poverty.

“Teachers ignored a five year-old boy as he lay dying in a school playground...”

First, I’ll admit that in keeping with honored FR tradition, I did not actually read the article, but as a retired teacher, I’m still going to comment on a few things mentioned in the excerpt.

Having done hundreds if not thousands of recess duties I can tell you that unless the playground is small and perfectly flat, a kid could be on the ground without my noticing.

And then there’s the time—how could anyone know he was lying on the ground for NINE MINUTES? Did someone note the time he fell to the ground and the time that a teacher arrived?

But let’s imagine that the teacher rushed to the kid the moment he fell to the ground. What then? Of course summon the school nurse. That likely would have taken five or six minutes for her to arrive. I can’t imagine that teacher or the nurse could have saved him no matter how quickly they arrived or summoned an ambulance.

The death of a 5-year-old is a tragedy and no doubt the parents are devastated. But I don’t think ‘negligence’ is what caused him to die.

As an aside, the name of the school ‘Charter Oak International Academy’ is a bit of a ‘tell’ for me.

Security cameras.

Good point, never thought of that since most have been installed since I retired. I can’t say our world has improved much over the last decade or so.

I concede you make good points.
, it may not have been negligence, but it also may have .
