On Thursday, Florida lawmakers filed a bill that would allow Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) to run for president without having to first resign from the governor’s office.
Current state law mandates that if DeSantis were to run for another office, he would have to resign from his current post in order to do so, as reported by the Epoch Times.
The bill, Senate Bill 7050, was filed at 6:08 p.m. just roughly thirty minutes after news broke that 45th President Donald Trump will be indicted by Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg (D).
The filing comes after Gov. DeSantis took a stand for President Trump against the unjustified indictment, taking to Twitter to decry the “anti-American’ nature of the political persecution.
“The weaponization of the legal system to advance a political agenda turns the rule of law on its head,” DeSantis wrote. “It is un-American.”

It is un-American.

WATCH: TRUMP TEAM RELEASES POWERFUL VIRAL AD IN RESPONSE TO INDICTMENT
“The Soros-backed Manhattan District Attorney has consistently bent the law to downgrade felonies and to excuse criminal misconduct,” he explained. “Yet, now he is stretching the law to target a political opponent.”
“Florida will not assist in an extradition request given the questionable circumstances at issue with this Soros-backed Manhattan prosecutor and his political agenda,” DeSantis added.
While DeSantis has yet to announce an official run for the presidency, many took his recent book tour as a shadow campaign as the Florida governor crisscrossed the country to tell conservative audiences about his model of leadership.
While the Florida legislature is getting ready to lay the groundwork for DeSantis to run for the Republican nomination, Trump’s indictment likely overshadows its importance.
It's up to the GOP voters of each state to choose whom they feel will be the best candidate and the best POTUS.
I encourage a large field of potentials from which we voters can make the choice we think best.
Speeches, debates, interviews, books. All good things.
I'll support and vote for whichever candidate wins the GOP nom, never a Dem or Indie.
Currently, I favor DeSantis (who showed major leadership and statesmanship in his condemnation of the bogus indictment.)
PTrump wouldn’t start wars for the MIC.
Nuland, Pelosi, Clinton, Schumer are still big mad.
WTF is a “real conservative?”
It’s a label applied by the media who social engineered most of those on the right to believe Paul Ryan, Romney, Bush, and many other pretenders were “conservative”.
Don’t get stuck in their boxes.
This was on their agenda long before a Trump indictment was even talked about.
Another garbage headline designed to get the reader to draw a false inference. And of course it works based on some of the replies.
Four years without wars really pissed off the MIC and Deep State. It was not a very profitable time for them.
Actually it was a label designed to get conservatives to sit at home and not vote to allow the Left to gain more and more power...to “teach the GOP a lesson”. “The GOP”, of course, aren’t the ones having to live with the consequences of that way of thinking.
“If you think that NeverTrumpers are happy about this indictment, then you’re an idiot.”
Read up on what Liz Cheney is saying, for example.
With the current level of cheating both will lose.
Without the current level of cheating Trump has proven to be the big vote-getter. 75 million votes.
And that doesn't include all the Trump votes that were tossed by various Zukerbucks paid election boards and their poll workers.
Not usre why you are on this thread, gopE Uniparty types do not do well here. DU may be more up to your tastes
What is the designer label used to get RINO's to sabotage Trump and MAGA candidates?
Why then would the Deep State impeach the man twice, use the entire federal government apparatus and spend hundreds of millions of dollars to destroy him? From the day he came down the escalator at Trump Tower to announce his candidacy in June 2015 to today it has been a 24/7 365 effort to get this man off the political stage. They’re flat out afraid of Trump! Yeah, I don’t think that same cabal is all that terrified of the Bush puppet DeSantis.
1. He can’t be a lawyer.
2. He must have been indicted in a Democrat sh!t-hole jurisdiction.
These are the only two qualifications that matter to me. I won’t even waste my time reading stupid books a candidate writes, watching campaign ads, or even tuning in to a candidate's debate.
“this indictment mess has blown over”
They’ve been hounding Trump since he came down the escalator in 16. Other states will indict. I don’t see it blowing over.
I think DeSantis is gonna be the nominee. I think enough Republican primary voters are eventually going to make some calculations: The Dems and the populace don’t want Biden again. If the “R” is anyone other than Trump, that person will probably be elected.
Yes, the Democrats get away with a lot of their philandering, JFK, Bill Clinton, even Joe Biden (Tara Reade), but Trump did a stupid thing in giving a story to a character like Stormy Daniels.
Any opinions on Jeanette Nunez, the Lt. Governor? She would be the likely person to take over if Ron DeSantis does step down.
Even without the cheating millions of Trump voters will stay home if DeSantis gets the nomination!
Leader on the leash, being lead around by the UNIPARTY oligarchy. Good for you.
Anyone still interested in the Declaration of Independence?
imho none of this really matters.
The reason the democrats are so in your face to the american public is because they believe they control election results.
Have you seen anything that would dissuade you of that? Have the republicans shown any evidence that they can break the democrat grip on elections.
I love the way de santos has straightened out voting in Florida. But he shows no sign of an answer for the rest of the country.
Its great that trump has now endorsed mail in voting and ballot harvesting. But that’s really only part of the game.
The democrats play on multiple levels.
Arizona won’t allow signature verification. If the pubs were to have a chance in Arizona Georgia and Pennsylvania...they would need signature verifcation.
Without those swing states—or nevada for that matter-do you see a road for republicans to the white house?
Look at Florida. DeSantis appealed to voters outside of his base. Trump has his base right now and that's it. His bone headed antics have alienated everyone else who may have considered voting for him since 2016. If you're the head coach, you're putting Trump on the bench. DeSantis is going in now.
