On Thursday, Florida lawmakers filed a bill that would allow Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) to run for president without having to first resign from the governor’s office.
Current state law mandates that if DeSantis were to run for another office, he would have to resign from his current post in order to do so, as reported by the Epoch Times.
The bill, Senate Bill 7050, was filed at 6:08 p.m. just roughly thirty minutes after news broke that 45th President Donald Trump will be indicted by Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg (D).
The filing comes after Gov. DeSantis took a stand for President Trump against the unjustified indictment, taking to Twitter to decry the “anti-American’ nature of the political persecution.
“The weaponization of the legal system to advance a political agenda turns the rule of law on its head,” DeSantis wrote. “It is un-American.”

It is un-American.

WATCH: TRUMP TEAM RELEASES POWERFUL VIRAL AD IN RESPONSE TO INDICTMENT
“The Soros-backed Manhattan District Attorney has consistently bent the law to downgrade felonies and to excuse criminal misconduct,” he explained. “Yet, now he is stretching the law to target a political opponent.”
“Florida will not assist in an extradition request given the questionable circumstances at issue with this Soros-backed Manhattan prosecutor and his political agenda,” DeSantis added.
While DeSantis has yet to announce an official run for the presidency, many took his recent book tour as a shadow campaign as the Florida governor crisscrossed the country to tell conservative audiences about his model of leadership.
While the Florida legislature is getting ready to lay the groundwork for DeSantis to run for the Republican nomination, Trump’s indictment likely overshadows its importance.
It is a Leftist tactic. More Trump vs. DeSantis propaganda. They are harassing Trump for THEIR benefit, not a Republican’s. It is to “look” convenient.
Fantasyland.
Of course not. What does that have to do with election law?
You were implying that because few states have passed a particular law, then we should conclude that that law must be a bad law. I pointed out to you the flaw in that reasoning.
If a law’s prevalence proves that it’s a good idea, then state income tax is a good idea.
They were doing that prior to Alvin Bragg’s idiocy.
Everybody knows that this is only going to make Trump more popular with the GOP - he was sagging in the polls (other than those taken by Truth Social, his org) -but now even people who detest him will vote for him. He raised $4 million yesterday.
Surely the Dems must have realized this would happen. So what is their game? Make sure Trump will be the candidate because the think even Biden could probably win against him in the general election?
Never take the Dems at face value. They always have a strategy behind it.
In political terms, Ron DeSantis is flat broke. He’s also a lawyer who has worked in government his entire life. Someone like this hasn’t had an independent thought since he graduated from high school.
He does whatever his financial backers tell him to do.
If you cannot see the fantastic conservative policies DeSantis helped enact in Florida, then you are mental.
Yeah, the Trump cultists will stay home and let the meat_puppet get re-elected.
Separate and aside from whether or not repealing this law is a good idea, the fact that it’s being repealed at this time, in order to make it easier for DeSantis to run, reveals DeSantis’s presidential ambitions - if anyone still doubted them. It also reveals that his commitment to serving out his full four year term is not what he lead Florida voters to believe it was. If you’re fine with that, that’s your choice. But it paints a picture of DeSantis that is at odds with what many of his supporters have claimed.
DeSantis is a lawyer turned career politician.
Pompeo is a military contractor turned career Military Industrial Complex bureaucrat.

BINGO!!! It would be close imo even if Biden’s obvious “oldtimers” worsens and Jill’s string-pulling can no longer be hidden. DT is divisive imo and his mammoth ego will be fully unleashed this time. Voters would have a choice between 2 old codgers, neither in top form.
Actually, I’m begin getting to think even the Dems realize that Biden is bad now and will probably be a veg by next November. So I’m betting on Gavin Newsom, the California COVID dictator. He is completely incompetent, the nephew by marriage of Nancy Pelosi, a slimy character- but young. Voters are sick of grumpy old men, regardless of party.
And Gavin, as they call him in CA, would be hideous. He operates completely outside the law and does whatever he wants.
It’s really crucial that no Dem gets in. We’re finished if they do.
And millions of DeSantis voters will stay home if Trump gets the Nomination!
See how that works both ways?
“But what does that have to do with anything?”
Why the absurdity.... like this thread, silly.
I don't care who is on the ballot I am voting for Trump. Unfortunately when Trump failed to get Pence to help declare the election at least questionable, that he would be the last republican ever elected. I don't see much on the horizon to make me think I was wrong.
He gets my vote even if he is not viable or even on the ticket. My likely last vote will never again be for the lesser of two evils and all career politicians are evil or at least compromised.
Proposed by a Democrat? Is he hoping to remove De Santis or Trump?
Who the hell is going to take his place?
My vote was a four year contract for him as Governor of Florida.
