When Chinese leader Xi Jinping and Russia’s President Vladimir Putin met in Moscow last month, China sent a cautionary rebuke to Russia about nuclear threats against Ukraine in a clear message to avoid nuclear war.
Putin, who on several occasions had threatened to launch atomic weapons in retaliation against various battlefield escalations, signed onto a no use of nuclear weapons statement in a joint communique.
Or at least he did for a few hours. Among the pledges listed, China and Russia agreed that “All nuclear-weapon states should refrain from deploying nuclear weapons abroad.”
But no sooner had Xi left Moscow than Putin ignored the accord and announced plans to place tactical nuclear arms in Belarus, a neighboring country that could be a staging ground for Russian invasion forces.
China responded quickly. “Under the current circumstances, all sides should focus on diplomatic efforts for a peaceful of the Ukraine crisis and work together for de-escalation,” Mao Ning, a foreign ministry spokesperson, told reporters in Beijing on March 27.
It was an unusually vivid sample of the dissonance underlying aspects of Russia and China’s apparent agreement over Ukraine policy. China, despite its hefty economic and propaganda support for Russia, wants to be seen as a peacemaker, not as a warmonger.

Xi will rap Putin on the knuckles for these nuclear threats
excerpted:
“...Some observers surmised that Xi is in no hurry to press for the war’s end. The conflict has sapped American military resources—already both the US and Europe are discovering they lack enough ammunition to supply Ukraine – while imposing higher fuel costs on Western economies as China receives Russian oil at below-market, friendship rates....”
“Xi will rap Putin on the knuckles for these nuclear threats”
I’m glad Xi’s against nuclear war, and I wish the Neocons also held that position, but from what I see in their behavior, they look at it as just another level of ‘escalation’.
We live in scary times. I really hope the Russians ditch their mad tsar before they end up like North Korea.
I’m more worried about ours. DC is the most dangerous threat.
Those aren’t friendship rates. Russia likely is selling oil and gas without profit just to get foreign exchange. The image that comes to mind is a cow with its head stuck in a fence and being banged by a bull.
As for weakening America, nothing could be further from the truth. While we are shipping ammo from inventory not only are American manufacturers gearing-up but the US has placed orders to replace the ammo in South Korea and other suppliers who are backfilling US inventories. The result is that every manufacturer is going full speed. Also, when production numbers are quoted, they are only quoted for the US because the US publishes its contracts. They do not address the ammo being produced by the rest of the world.
bkmk
and in today’s news the USMC’s amphibious force is 35% undermanned.
Xi depends on the world for customers. Putin doesn’t any more because he doesn’t have much for sale.
The world has declared that Putin is a war criminal having committed crimes against humanity. Unlike several Freepers, Xi can knows it is best not to get too close and have the crimes of association rub off.
woke, blind and arrogant US “leaders” (who really are like children) broke a key strategic rule which has been in place since the Cold War - balance China and Russia against each other to keep the peace and balance power among our three powers.
Corrupt fools in DC, drunk on unlimited US power for 30 years, stupidly thought Russia was weak and could be controlled by the West. Now they have pushed China and Russia together, and they are taking the BRICS with them.
Lest you think “Oh well, its just killing Syrians, Iraqi, Russians, Ukrainians” - we at home are suffering their grab for empire, as our republic is dying in front of our eyes.
The lawfare Putin conducted against his last electoral oppenent Alexy Navalny is an incredibly similar prequel to the state-sponsored lawfare being conducted against Trump. The stories so far read nearly the same.
We can't trust the gov't there and if we ever have an administration working in America's interest, we need to move them out.
Note: Please use SAC Standards and Procedures when moving Nukes. Find a copy! They worked!
XI....”Hey guys...we got another sucker on the line besides the USA.” It’s all about trade...and I don’t mean the “balance” of trade.
“We live in scary times. I really hope the Russians ditch their mad tsar before they end up like North Korea.”
I hope so too, but russia has “state media” who control the narrative the way putin wants them to. The russian people are fed constant propaganda about putin’s war
“..Alexy Navalny is an incredibly similar prequel to the state-sponsored lawfare being conducted against Trump...”
Agree!! and Zelensky ran his political opponent out of the country and closed down all opposition media outlets. Is Biden going to follow suit???
Yes. May it be so!
China has about 1.5 billion citizens. Russia has about 140 million. China could use more land...
The danger of DC is that it tends to believe what it wants to believe about foreign adversaries, but it’s the foreign adversaries that will do us in every time. That can take the form of Putin nuking us, China demanding that we turn ourselves into a particularly obsequious puppet state, or the cartels overrunning us and turning us into a narco-state. The best thing that can happen is a revival, and by revival I mean a voluntary surrendering to God.
China does not spend a nickel on foreign wars.
China did not waste one dime in Ukraine.
No wonder China has money to buy land in USA, mines all over the world, and can establish new factories all over the world
While USA is drowning in debt.
Could? Didn't they do exactly this just last year?
