One of Australia's biggest banks has confirmed that some of its branches will no longer allow customers to withdraw money over the counter.
ANZ bank is stripping back some of its services, with certain branches no longer carrying physical cash.
Instead, customers will be directed to ATMs if they wish to withdraw money - even though these machines are also being cut down across the country.
....
this could cause significant harm to older people and those with disabilities who still rely on physical cash.
...
The number of bank branches in Australia has fallen by about 30 per cent in the last five years, a trend that has been mirrored across the world.
And ATMs have decreased even more, with figures showing that they have fallen from a high of 14,000 in 2017 to around 6,000 as of last year.

Cyber security expert Ben Britton, who works as a chief information security officer, said a cyber attack could stop the major banks from conducting electronic transactions linked to their EFTPOS terminals.
'That entire system is dependent on an internet connection to work so if there's any interruption in the internet connection, then people will not be able to
...
'If there was a major cyber attack, if there was a vulnerability within that terminal and it was exploited, then they could potentially shut down every terminal in the entire country.'
This could occur if hackers figured out how to exploit a banking computer code.

Note Chrystia Freeland’s - grandfather Mykhailo Khomiak’s role during WW2..
Remember the freedom peaceful trucker protests in Canada when the government froze bank accounts? People could not buy food nor pay their rent. Get ready.

I always keep cash on hand for food and gas ...
Fascists doing what fascists do.
This is how the end begins.
We always keep a stash of cash hidden in our cars. Comes in handy when you're low on gas or food, and you don't have enough money in your pockets. Or plain forget to carry your wallet, as I have done a couple times when switching jackets.
Go wander around in the desert without cash and see how far you get if something goes awry
Thought the Aussie cash was plastic not paper.
We always keep a decent amount of cash stashed here at home. We have done that for decades. You never know when an emergency might arise in which immediate cash is needed. And with the current state of the world those “sudden emergencies” seem more probable than ever.
Cash will be outlawed
You can ...... wait for it ...... Bank 🏦🏦🏦 on it.
If I never use Cash, again I will be happy.
My wife is the original Cash is Queen lady.
One of our DIL’s friends apparently is working with retinal eye scans to replace the ATM’s pws and tellers.
“If I never use Cash, again I will be happy.”
We’ll see.
with DC, not only can they shut it off, but they can restrict WHAT YOU BUY to their approval
and they can restrict where you GO by putting limits on how far away from home your card will work without pre-authorization...
but what do I know, just a dumb hillrod
At least bums will no longer ask me for cash.
End of cash in sight.
Why bother when a simple chip implanted under the skin can be used for business transactions?
This also prevents people from giving others cash without the government knowing about it.
