New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell can rest easy for now. The recall petition that was organized in an attempt to oust her from office failed because it did not collect enough signatures. The total number of signatures on the petition fell short of the necessary number needed to proceed with the recall process. If enough signatures had been collected and verified, the voters would have had the opportunity to go to the polls and vote on the matter. Alas, it was not meant to be.
According to Orleans Parish Registrar of Voters Sandra Wilson, recall organizers collected just 27,243 valid signatures during their six-month, $1.2 million push to depose Cantrell, whose popularity had plummeted amid voter discontent over crime and other issues.
That figure, which Wilson reported to Gov. John Bel Edwards, was some 18,000 signatures short of the nearly 45,000 signatures needed to trigger a recall election.
Oh well. New Orleans’s corrupt government lives on. What a shock. I love the city, or I did until the murders and other crimes got completely out of control. I have not visited the city in a while.
New Orleans has had a Democrat mayor since 1872. Every single one of them. No one thinks a Republican can beat the incumbent Democrat. The co-organizers of the recall were both Democrats. It’s a Democrat city but the State of Louisiana is mostly a red state. Governor John Bel Edwards is a Democrat but a more moderate Democrat than most. For instance, he is unapologetically pro-life.

Left wing sewers have a real problem with recalls. Too many people count on the jackass being recalled for all their “free stuff”.
And official corruption has been given the greenlight.
We are truly living in bizarro world.
Or the system is perfected that 100% of the population can vote for something, but 101% of the population votes against and wins.
Hsr popularity must not have “plummeted” too far then. Either that or the organizers couldn’t be bothered to give the campaign their all. They shoulda done what the left do... go into nursing homes and “help people decide to sign the petition”- they could have plenty of sigs then.
It’s New Orleans, there are large events and people on the streets all year, and they spend $1.2 million dollars to collect 27,243 signatures?
That’s $44.00 per signature!
If you had been in New Orleans over the last several months, especially Uptown, you would see Recall Cantrell signs everywhere.
How exactly does one blow $1.2 million dollars and not even get 28,000 signatures?
They got the government they deserve....................
Considering that Louisiana is consistently deemed the most corrupt state in the nation, not surprising.
Louisiana - Half under water, the other half under indictment.
A member of the untouchable class.
Somebody out there took $1.2 million dollars from donors and did not do their job.
In other words, some people got ripped off.
The Criminals in office get to decide which signatures are 'valid'.
We have the same problem in Colorado.
Corruption is in the city charter. I lived there in the 60s when it was still a unique city, largely undiscovered by tourists and when corruption was an art form, not a competition as it is now.
Business Trade Shows and Conventions have completely abandoned New Orleans - It is last on the list of cities where Trade Groups want to hold their events.
Ask California.
He who counts the vote/signatures,,,,
...., wins.
Me too. In the area from ‘68-86. Down hill for years.
Lefties put those horrific black women up as mayors. (Looking at you, Lori and Keisha) How’s that working out for you? This is a trial run. The black queer woman is the top of the politically correct pile of crap. The victimhood trifecta. Elected as an angry placeholder, look at what they do. Keep it up, blue America. We are circling the bowl now.
I live in Louisiana and they scrutinize ALL the names on the petition yet when elections come up the same zeal is lost and every anonymous vote is counted...this woman is tragic and doing nothing but lining her own pocket like those before her. For the life of me I do not understand the draw to New Orleans as it is filthy and basically a den of thieves waiting to pounce.
