A program in Oregon giving rebates for buying or leasing electric vehicles has become a victim of its success.
The state has temporarily suspended rebates for a year starting in May because too many people are applying, and the program is running out of money.
In over five years, the Clean Vehicle Rebate Program has disbursed more than $71 million to help people buy or lease roughly 25,000 of those vehicles.
The state has offered two cash rebates for Oregon drivers who buy or lease electric vehicles or plug-in hybrids under $50,000.
The standard rebate of up to $2,500 is available regardless of income and can be received at participating dealers.
The "charge ahead" rebate of $5,000 is aimed at low or moderate income households and must be accessed via a mail-in application. The two rebates can be combined for up to $7,500 cashback.

The beginning of the end is starting to show. This is a stupid idea that cannot work except in the minds of morons that don’t live in the real world.
I guess that means I won’t be getting the twelve-hundred-dollar subsidy for an electric bicycle.
If they are so wonderful, they wouldn’t have to pay you to buy them.
There is no free market anymore.
You wore you didn’t invest in Tesla when it was $5 a share?
SHAZAM..
Part of the scam is to raise profits for the EV manufacturers. Tax incentives do nothing but artificially inflate prices. The end result is the incentive doesn't help the consumer, who the incentive is ostensibly supposed to help. The incentive helps just Big Green.
I wish I had bought Tesla when it pulled back to $109/share a couple months ago(I had a buy in at $95 and $89).
If you watch any of the YouTube videos about how Tesla’s are made in the Gigafactories they have revolutionized the production of automobiles. The one piece Aluminum casting machine process has made it much less expensive to produce.
At the Chinese factory they can put out a vehicle every 30 seconds.
All the other EV manufacturers are well behind and are trying to catch up. Tesla is going to come out with smaller EVs in the $25-30K range next.
The problem with EV’s is the reliance on Lithium/cobalt/nickel batteries and the fact that these batteries weigh over 1000 pounds in the average Tesla. So, the physics involved just to propel the vehicle goes against everything I learned in Mechanical Engineering.
The real question whether EV’s become the dominant form of transportation in the future is IF the billions being spent by Panasonic, Toyota, Samsung, and every other electronics company can come up with a Solid State battery that lasts for 30+ years and can hold a charge to give you a 500+ mile range. If that happens, the ICE vehicle will lose market share for automobiles.
Exactly.
IF that does not happen, then plug in hybrids IMHO are the way to go.
I wish Toyota would come out with a plug in hybrid V6 Tacoma. Something that I could charge at home for my daily commute of 22 miles round trip but still pull a trailer/boat/camper and drive cross country with a 17 gallon fuel tank.
IF that happens, I would have a reason to get rid of the 2012 V6 Tacoma that just turned 99000 miles(the best vehicle I have ever owned).
Ever since we went to WFH, I don’t drive enough to warrant buying another vehicle.
Now is still the time. Even at the current price, Tesla is going to be a tremendous investment.
All the mostly irrelevant anti EV chatter fails to consider the fantastic disruption being wrought by Tesla. Tesla has no real competition
“...and every other electronics company can come up with a Solid State battery that lasts for 30+ years and can hold a charge to give you a 500+ mile range.”
To your battery criteria, I would add:
...and can be charged in a reasonable amount of time, that being around 15 minutes.
Ping
The reason so many of us hate EVs is that we are subsidizing them against our will.
It is pure extortion.
I just hate the stupid virtue signalling liberals who think they are superior for driving them.
If you would like more information about what’s happening in Oregon, please FReepmail me. Please send me your name by FReepmail if you want to be on this list.
I remember in the 1960s when environmental virtue signalers drove VW Beetles.
The EV fad will also pass.
How about a Tesla Supercharger? Why can’t we have that at our homes?
“How about a Tesla Supercharger? Why can’t we have that at our homes?”
Here is a pretty good explanation on the subject:
