Former President Donald Trump told Breitbart News exclusively he is very pleased that House Speaker Kevin McCarthy made the decision to release surveillance footage from the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021.
McCarthy’s move to provide some tapes to Fox News host Tucker Carlson, which aired last week, captured the attention of the nation because the tapes Carlson aired undercut several official narratives proffered previously by the now-defunct House January 6 Select Committee. McCarthy, in an exclusive interview with Breitbart News last week, pledged that he will release the entire cache of surveillance footage publicly once congressional advisers finish poring over its contents and removing anything that would threaten security.
Trump, for his part, was very pleased with McCarthy’s move. In an interview late last week focused mostly on his new forthcoming book Letters to Trump, the former president praised the speaker profusely saying his decision was “fantastic” and “brave” and would go down in history as one of the most important things McCarthy has done as an elected official.
“I think it’s a fantastic thing he did. I think it’s a brave thing he did,” Trump said. “I think it’s one of the most consequential acts he’s done as a politician and everybody is very happy with him. He’s doing a wonderful job as Speaker.”
Trump went to bat for McCarthy during his contentious run-up to the speakership in which the California congressman fought through 15 ballots over four days to finally win the gavel late Friday night. Trump made phone calls for McCarthy in the weeks leading up to the speakership election after endorsing him in an interview with Breitbart News in Miami in early December and even called the final holdouts that fateful Friday night to push them to back McCarthy for

“I’m very proud of him,” Trump said. “I think he’s done a great job. This was a great thing he did for the country.”
Release all of the J6 footage to all of us, not just to Tucker Carlson. It’s our property in the first place.
Not pleased we haven’t heard anything new since last week.
McCarthy should be releasing these faster. Given whats at stake, I would say ‘ok’ job, maybe ‘good’ job, but not great yet.
Why is something like this up to one person? It seems too important.
I think it’s more important for Congress to see them first..The Dems had them and did their nit picking. Letting people like Jordan have a look would make me very happy...
I’d wager that Fox got a letter from The Big Guy’s Department of Just Us.
I dont mind Jordan looking, but the idea that congress has to see them first is antithetical to sunshine treatment. Just release them and let people do what they want with them.
“McCarthy, in an exclusive interview with Breitbart News last week, pledged that he will release the entire cache of surveillance footage publicly once congressional advisers finish poring over its contents and removing anything that would threaten security.”
Who exactly are these “congressional advisers”, pray tell? Does Congress now have its own staff of advisers like the Executive branch? Or is he just talking about spooks but not wanting to admit that spooks are going to be censoring what the American people are allowed to see?
“the idea that congress has to see them first is antithetical to sunshine treatment”
And the idea that Congress should be able to see the uncensored footage, while Congress’ boss, the American public, is only allowed to see some edited remnant, is antithetical to the entire spirit of the American political system.
We need the J6 video released to the general public, not just carefully selected snippets.
Really...Look at who practically owns the media...and “us”. I believe a little caution is wise.
“He really should be posting everything on a fed-hosted House website.”
Better to release tasty morsels one at a time so the J6 committee’s fraud can be kept in the news for months to come.
Sorry....it has to be done and it’s the right thing to do. YOU voted for them and they’re doing their job. This is a monstrous cache.
Not sure how brave this is. Those recordings (not tapes) should never be hidden from the public and all of them, in their entirety should be made available to everybody NOW . . .
It’s pitiful that things have gotten so corrupt in this nation when it takes extraordinary courage to expose the lies of the Establishment.
Exactly! *
* Except safeguarding items of security. Since those "items" are already known to the Dems, disclosure should now be entirely at the discretion of non-Rino R's.
“Sorry....it has to be done and it’s the right thing to do.”
I disagree. Congress are our subordinates, not our bosses. If the public is not allowed to see the footage, then Congress shouldn’t be allowed to see it either.
“* Except safeguarding items of security.”
I include no such asterisk, because then you give the government a loophole to hide anything they want from you, and they have shown over and over again that they can’t be trusted to not abuse such a loophole at every opportunity.
