Trump on DeSantis: ‘Whatever I want, he wants’
The hill ^ | 03/14/2023 | Lauren Sforza

Former President Trump criticized Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) for his remarks about U.S. support for Ukraine on Monday, saying that the governor is just following in his footsteps.

DeSantis made headlines on Tuesday with his response to a questionnaire sent out by Fox New’s Tucker Carlson. DeSantis said that supporting Ukraine in its year-long fight against Russia is not one of America’s “vital interests,” while describing the war as a territorial dispute.

Debates are as American as apple pie. I like them as they let me evaluate the candidates face-to-face, so to speak. There’s no hiding behind press secretaries, PR teams, and the like.

But you do have a point about the media. So the trick is to debate without carelessly providing those harmful sound bites. The Democrats are rather good at that. And they have much more leeway to begin with.

Unfortunately, Republicans are often not so good at it.

It's true.

The difference is we know Trump will keep his word. We don't know that about DeSantis.

“Trump on DeSantis: ‘Whatever I want, he wants’

That sounds like a good thing, not a bad thing...

Who died and made you the Trump Watchdog Extraordinaire?

I support the man. I sure don’t support you on this.

You’re going to be a big surprise when you find out who is
supporting Ron from Washington, D. C.

Sometimes I wish we had polls or surveys on Free Republic.

We used to!

JR, can the forum front page polling function come back?

Agreed. Trump is being way too belligerent, and I’m tired of it. He needs to go after Biden and leave DeSantis alone.

I ran the poll last time.

It was kind of hokey, but it did allow folks to blow off
steam each day.

With Trump and DeSantis, it might help, but in all honesty
it also makes one side or the other very upset when they
think their guy didn’t get a break here or there.

I started the poll, and +/- five days some Cruz folks were
shown the door, and for the 120 days or so that I ran the
poll, they never got over it and said the whole thing was
rigged.

It is quite time consuming.

I have never liked either of them.

But I have some hope that Trump may have learned a lot from his previous term, however unlikely that is

“I wonder, how many Freepers are in favor of Trump’s attacks on DeSantis, and how many are opposed to such attacks.”

The target is the Biden Administration, Joe Biden specifically, and the Marxist political party that we call Democrats.

Other Republicans are like a pan full of material being separated in a wash, the gold will remain in the pan. The focus right now is to attack the democrats at every opportunity. Concentrate on that and rest of the process will take care of itself.

Anything less at this juncture is juvenile pettiness.

Chill out. He is a competitive guy. Quit telling him what to do. If you think that the primaries are going to be love affairs between the candidates, you are delusional. Get used to it.

You and the rest of the DeSantis simps on here are such crybabies. This is a perfectly reasonable thing for Trump to point out. It’s actually a great line of distinction that he should be using constantly, that is Ron is just a junior version of Trump.

If you look at the replies Tucker got from the candidates, every one of them has some MAGA talking points that Trump has already had for months or years. They’re all trying to get the Trump/MAGA base voters because it’s a big chunk of the R vote. Whether they mean it or not, who knows.

We know Trump means it but whether he or any of them can do what they want is another story with the swamp being so deep. Trump got a lot done considering the uniparty swamp was against him.

Since he was robbed of his second term, I’d like to see him back in office, even if just for the entertainment of leftist heads exploding.

You'd think Donald Trump would at least try a little subtlety when it comes to who terrifies him in the GOP primary. Ron DeSantis isn't even officially running and Trump already can't stop obsessing over him.

My read of it from the beginning is that Trump is being as loud and forceful as possible in order to scare off the people encouraging and supporting DeSantis, not DeSantis per se.

The problem he's having with this strategy is not just that DeSantis is the best governor in America right now, but also that Trump needs the support of people who like DeSantis as well as the people who are supporting DeSantis' potential run for office in order to be successful in the general election (because this isn't a repeat of 2016, party support is going to be needed in the general). Going scorched earth, which I believe is the only way he knows how to go, either steels their spirits or turns them off to him entirely. It's a very narrow path for success.

Yeah, it was in a way. We had around 100 people who took
part each night. I had to travel upwards of 100 miles back
home a few times to get the think set up and out on time.

Thanks for raising the issue.

“I think that Trump is referring to DeSantis’ “me too” public comments about Ukraine.”

Tucker Carlson highlighted what DeSantis wrote tonight. Did not mention much about Trump at all.
