NEW: U.S. Officials Say Ukrainian Group Blew up Nordstream 2
Red State. ^ | March 07, 2023 | Bonchie

In what may be the biggest news regarding the conflict in Ukraine since it began, The New York Times is now reporting that U.S. officials believe a pro-Ukrainian group blew up the Nordstream 2 pipeline.

That comes via “new” intelligence that has apparently been kicking around for a while.

WASHINGTON — New intelligence reviewed by U.S. officials suggests that a pro-Ukrainian group carried out the attack on the Nord Stream pipelines last year, a step toward determining responsibility for an act of sabotage that has confounded investigators on both sides of the Atlantic for months.

U.S. officials said that they had no evidence President Volodymyr Zelensky of Ukraine or his top lieutenants were involved in the operation, or that the perpetrators were acting at the direction of any Ukrainian government officials.

While the Times says Zelensky isn’t directly implicated, the report leaves open the possibility that a proxy was knowingly used.

The other issue here is why the United States and Germany did not share this publicly and instead kept blaming Russia. They knew and openly misled about the situation when it wasn’t even necessary.

Another complication is that Nordstream 2 was important to Europe. A lot of suffering resulted and some nations, even those supportive of Ukraine, may demand consequences. Finally, the last question is why this is being leaked now. It was roughly one month ago that investigative journalist Seymour Hersh published a bombshell report purporting to implicate the U.S. in the incident, though said report rightly was met with some skepticism.

If any of this was true (pretty marginal story if you ask me), then it triggers Article 5 of the NATO agreement, and Ukraine (if ordered by them) would be defined as an enemy.

Maybe that's their ultimate out - NATO forces can strike through Poland and seize Kiev within days, securing Ukraine west of the Dneiper (and hiding any incriminating evidence) while Putin occupies the eastern part.

Say, I remember reading about some historical event just like this before, when was it? 1939, or something? :)

you got any actual proof of that, or are you just guessing?

A USA spy plane flew from the US, refueled over the south of Italy, loitered till planes cleared the area and flew over where the pipeline blew up and flew back to the USA without stopping.
If the bio labs had not been close to the border and human trafficking the neighbors the war would not have happened.

question - if LNG is so uneconomical, why does its market share keep going up?

see, this is why we think you're lying to us ...

LOL. what a load of horse-pucky

Here’s what they want you to believe: A non-state actor, operating completely unknown to any EU/US intelligence service, designs massive charges to take out a 7-8” thick steel-concrete pipeline, with charges placed in 8 different spots, with long-distance remote detonation ability, using a dozen highly trained, expert divers working at 100m deep, requiring a large surface ship for support, just a few miles off Danish territory and a Danish military base, all while a NATO exercise is going on around them.

And this was all done in complete secrecy - and they’ve kept it secret now for 6 months!

What a joke!

No doubt that the Nordstream attack was sophisticated. However I maintain that the US did not do this, for many political reasons, and because it would be a strategic blunder, possibly bring down the Biden admin, if discovered. (I dont like Biden or the current admin, so dont confuse this rationale with support for either).

So what 'group' sympatheic to Ukraine has the capacity to do this? Well, from Wiki...

Like all post-Soviet states, Ukraine inherited its special forces (Spetsnaz) units from the remnants of the Soviet armed forces, GRU and KGB units. Ukraine now maintains its own Spetsnaz structure under the control of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and under the Ministry of Defence, while the Security Service of Ukraine maintains its own Spetsnaz force, the Alpha group. In 2016 the Special Operations Forces were created as an independent branch of the Armed Forces of Ukraine formed only by special forces units.

It so happens that among other units, the Ukrainians have the 1st Underwater demolitions Unit of the 73rd Naval Special Purpose Center, Ochakiv. So while we, myself included, have assumed that Ukraine did not have the capacity to do this, now I am not so sure they could not have. Its relatively easy to move around Europe so its not a stretch to see special operators from Ukraine making it to the Baltic.

If it is Ukraine, it was a risky move. They hurt the Russian economy through reduced cash flow, but could upset the very NATO countries they need support from. So you wouldn't expect them to admit to it.

--- “The Ukrainian Naval Infantry maintains its own small Spetsnaz force in the form of the 73rd marine Spetsnaz detachment; the detachment is named 'Seals' after the United States Navy SEALs and is built around the same purpose.”

Read it on reddit. Read it on Wikipedia.

If true, the attack was in part against a NATO member and within the waters of several other NATO members. Sounds like, if the Ukrainians did this, then it was an attack on NATO as well as Russia, and an attack within the sea borders of NATO itself.

On the other hand, noting verbiage, "a pro-Ukrainian group" could be many different entities, which could be described in the same manner, are potentials. Ergo, "New intelligence reviewed by U.S. officials" is of no informational value, for it is much like the media game of "experts say" and "unnamed sources under condition of anonymity" say....

This is what passes for news today. None accountable. All suspect. And with lots of wiggle room and generalities.

As to the Wiki source, one can look to the many recent edits:

“ you got any actual proof of that, or are you just guessing?”
*****************************************************

You KNOW that the Biden regime (and its neocon/globalist supporters) are aware that the possibility of Congressional hearings (the House.. not the Senate with its complicit fellow travelers such as McConnell, Graham and Romney) is rising and the 2024 election season is RAPIDLY approaching, The FEAR that the what and who of what happened at Nord Stream will be revealed is PALPABLE.

By the way, you’re still sounding VERY, VERY French.

No one seems to be able to explain how it was rented, how it was paid for, and the party behind the rental.

Yeah. But the Feds found Timothy McVeigh pretty danged quick after he allegedly rented a big yellow truck and stuffed it full of ANFO.

LNG is competitive vs. energy alternatives for places with no domestic natural gas, and its also much cleaner than coal, and certainly wood.

Its a good chart - what it really shows is how energy-starved much of the world still is. Places like India and Africa are still in the process of moving from things like dung, wood and artisan coal to gas for even basic things like home-cooking.

Pipelines are very expensive to build, so need a large pooling of capital and political cooperation (as we see with Nordstream) but once a pipeline is built, LNG will NEVER be competitive when in direct competition with piped gas

They boast about it before the fact, (Zhao) indeed they come back a second (Nuland) and third time (Blinken) and they threaten to do it.

Then they blame someone else for it, like chickenhsits.
