On Friday’s broadcast of HBO’s “Real Time,” Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) stated that taking more than half of someone’s income through taxes is “absolutely” fair for some earners.
Host Bill Maher asked, “I hear you all the time say, the rich don’t pay their fair share. Now, maybe that’s true of those three guys you mentioned [Elon Musk, Bill Gates, and Jeff Bezos], they are pretty rich. But, I guess I’m not very rich, but I pay more than half. California is 13.3% and the federal is 37% for people who make over 250k…and then there [are] the state and local and property taxes. So, I don’t remember the last year I paid less than…and again, I’m philosophically kind of with you. I’ve always said wealth is a fluke. So, I don’t ever go like, oh, I deserve all this. I did work hard, but it is kind of a fluke what we reward to make someone — so, philosophically, I get it. I’m okay with giving back. But the government is taking more than half and you want more?”

To a Leftist, “fair share” means taking from the rest of us but not necessarily from them.
Depends on what you get.
Right now, for what we are paying, what we get is outrageous.

BTW, today there’s no such thing as “fair share”. Tyranny in America is unconstitutional government acts and agencies. Forced funding of tyranny is opression.
80%+ or $3+ trillion of the fed gov’t is unconstitutional. You start by dismantling that beast. Once you have a constitutional government, then figure out a very low flat tax probably around 5% because the limited constitutional government won’t need much more than that.
My college Tax Accounting professor told the class that the first day of the first tax course I had to take while I was getting my Accounting degree. Also, "When in doubt, deduct it" and "Who's gonna know?" Everything else about taxes you have to look up, because they are always changing it.
The people who enact taxes have no intention of making the filthy-rich people suffer. gates, bezos, soros, and others are valuable to the left. Their fortunes will not be touched.
But they are targeting the leftover money that remains after we are no longer here. They want the money that ordinary people earn, pay taxes on, and leave behind. They want it and will take it by any means they can.
sanders said “Billionaires should not exist. Period.” Go ahead, bernie, and take ALL their money. I won’t criticize you.
(Remember how obammy said “At some point you have to say that you have enough money.”? The guy with 4 mansions became super rich as president. On a president’s salary.)

if you add up all the taxes and fees, many are already paying > 50%.
SANDERS never worked for a private employer in his entire life.
Anyone who pays 50% of their income in taxes needs to spend some coin on a talented tax attorney.

Correct...they pay too much. They are the ones who create economic growth and jobs. If you feel you are poor and want to complain about Bezos' wealth, I'll be sympathetic after you put food on the table and a roof over the heads of over 200,000 people.
Sanders is a hypocrite: he and all other politicians had decades to change the tax code and are responsible for its "unfairness", yet always bitch about it during a photo op.
