A modest proposal to regulate assault-style weapons — again(barf alert)
The Hill ^ | 3 mar 2023 | J. Brian Atwood

(snip)

Gun advocates do not argue that these weapons are needed for hunting. Hunters are sportsmen and -women. During certain seasons, many of them are happy to use a bow and arrow; shooting multiple rounds at a deer isn’t a sport.

Some gun owners talk about the thrill of using assault-style weapons and AR-15-style rifles for target practice. In fact, if gun advocates wish to argue that assault-style weapons are now in “common use,” that use is most likely at a rifle range.

And therein lies a modest proposal: Allow these dangerous weapons to be used only at secure ranges where they can be stored and used safely.

It is past time that “common sense” gun safety legislation be enacted as called for by President Biden. We have seen enough mass shootings made easier with weapons that shoot multiple rounds — in schools, shopping centers, churches and bars. The American people have made it clear in poll after poll that they want Congress to act.

Thanks.

Well, that’s one thing I would disagree with and continue
to do so.

We’ve made all the concessions we need to make.

Go after the criminals.

We had crime on the decline under Trump, and the Democrats
just gave away the store.

I don’t like seeing people in prison for three strikes, but
the fact is, it isn’t the third strike. These guys have
been given chances since they were twelve or so. It’s
more like the 23rd strike, and we all know it.

how about when law and order broke down in New Orleans during Katrina...and it broke down during the LA riots...and it really broke down the entire summer of 2020, when a political party encouraged and condoned lawlessness... no one getting my AR-15....

And who gets to define what an assault style weapon is? Gun grabbing government bureaucrats!

“During certain seasons, many of them are happy to use a bow and arrow;”

WHAT A DAMNED IGNORANT IDIOT!!! Yes. We hunters are ‘happy’ to use a bow and arrow. BECAUSE WE HAVE NO CHOICE. It is a “season” (at least where I live) dictated by the government who says when where and how we can hunt.

What mental defect that exists in the prog allows them to think that by calling a violation of the US Constitution “modest” or “common sense” will allow them to violate the rights of normal American Citizens?

How about this...

.

Anyone proposing yet another law that diminishes the rights of American Citizens, either verbally, written or published will be imprisoned for no less than 10 years.

After all, this is just a modest, common sense proposal that will protect the safety of the general public from undiagnosed sociopathic extremist liberals that want to rule over the rights of others.

.

See how easy it is to play that game on the other side of the fence?

Such a law would lead to prosecutions on a scale so massive it would require the founding of a new Australian Penal colony.

But it would allow normal American Citizens to live free from the maniacal oppression of the prog.

The prog could live in their own penal colony paradise of oppressive warlords along the lines of the pre-Mao era of China.

.

In his 2000 book “The America We Deserve,” Donald Trump said he supports a ban on assault weapons.

I don't trust Trump with my 2nd Amendment rights. His knee-jerk ban on bumpstocks demonstrated my concerns were not without warrant.

Of course, many of his supporters here were quick to rationalize it. "Nobody needs a bumpstock! It's just a way to waste ammo!"

It's still a gun ban and nobody here voted for Trump to ban guns.

I thought at Waco (82 killed, 30th Anniversary this year) although some were shot, they were mostly burned to death.

I was thinking of Wounded Knee, which was most definitely a mass shooting of civilians by agents of the US government.

For perspective...

From the National Center of Drug Overdose Statistics...

96k+

Over 96,700 people die from drug overdoses in a year.

72%

Opioids are a factor in 7 out of every 10 overdose deaths.

1M

Drug overdoses have killed almost a million people since 1999.

Perhaps we should secure our borders and enforce laws before disarming responsible gun owners.

It might also be useful to define "assault weapon" in a single, simple, and all-inclusive sentence.

The use of the term "modest proposal" is an attempt to hide the intent to pour sodium hydroxide down your throat with a big ear to ear grin.

As it stands today, I can't purchase a Glock 18, but my indoor range can rent it to me. It's not something I would purchase anyway. That is VERY different from thinking my personal property is going to be locked up out of my control. Unacceptable.

The AR 15 configured with a 300BLK barrel is ideal for hog hunting. I built one as a tax stamped SBR (10.5" barrel) suitable for use with a suppressor. There are already feral hogs showing up in Wyoming. Likely to make it to Idaho soon. It's an opportunity to put meat on the table.
