The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has issued a “serious public health” alert, warning of a nationwide spike in “extensively drug-resistant” shigellosis.
The highly contagious shigella bacterial infection attacks the intestines and causes inflammatory, sometimes bloody diarrhea, according to the CDC’s “emergency and preparedness response.”
There are about 450,000 shigellosis infections every year in the US, resulting in an estimated $93 million in direct medical costs, according to CDC data. The agency also reported that 5% of all infections in 2022 were extensively drug-resistant (XDR) — a jump from zero drug-resistant cases in 2015.
An infection is considered XDR when it doesn’t respond to antibiotics that are typically used to treat it, such as azithromycin, ciprofloxacin and ceftriaxone, among others.
“XDR shigellosis is resistant to all generally recommended antibiotics in the United States, making it difficult to treat,” according to the new report. XDR shigellosis is a serious public health threat: XDR Shigella bacteria have limited antimicrobial treatment options, are easily transmissible, and can spread antimicrobial resistance genes to other enteric bacteria.

Third world disease… wonder where that came from.
Mask up and....social distance, close down businesses, send kids home from school, rat out your neighbor....
Odd, that a nasty thing like this shows up suddenly.
It a 3rd world disease.
Really odd.........................
We have always had shigella. “Shigella ain’t got no flagella” was a meme thing we used in college microbiology to distinguish it. That was the late 70s.
It’s always something.
“Third world disease… wonder where that came from.”
I can’t imagine. Surely everyone flooding across our borders is thoroughly checked for heath issues ... you know like my great grandparents were.
Ah yes, the bloody shits. That should get the attention of even the unvaxxed. Quickly devise a fake vaccine which is really the Pfizer or Moderna clot shot. After all, all those blood clots will undoubtedly stop the bloody runs.
I guess if we don’t eat poop or have anal sex, all is good:
“Shigella is very contagious. People get infected with shigella when they come in contact with and swallow small amounts of bacteria from the stool of a person who is infected with shigella. For example, this can happen in a child care setting when staff members don’t wash their hands well enough after changing diapers or helping toddlers with toilet training. Shigella bacteria can also be passed in infected food or by drinking or swimming in unsafe water”.
I cant get my legs to go through the ear holes;-)
Shigellosis is caused by four specific types of Shigella. These are typically spread by exposure to infected feces. This can occur via contaminated food, water, or hands or sexual contact.
(July 23, 2022) WHO declares global health emergency over monkeypox outbreak (remember this?)
“Third world disease… wonder where that came from.”
I don’t recall reading anywhere this was a third world disease. However, it wouldn’t surprise.....
Me, too. My dad was three back in 1927 when he, his older brother, his older sister, and mom & dad arrived at Elis Island. They got the full treatment. If you didn’t pass the health exam, you weren’t admitted.
It is absolutely sickening how things have changed so much for the worse.
And stupid articles like this about the stupid CDC’s warning give no hint whatsoever where this is coming from.
Why not? Every other damn disease is coming in with the illegal alien invaders.
I’m just saying this so that you guys can take precautions. A lot of restaurants were without help and desperate to stay open so they started hiring illegals to to fill the void. They needed to fill the positions of Bus boys, waiters, cooks you name it. I’ve noticed that when I go to a restaurant my waiter will only speak Spanish. We decided to start cooking more here at home then going out. Some of them don’t even have health cards but they’re out there handling food. And this is only the beginning of what is coming around the corner as far as diseases that have been brought in by the invaders.
Boomer and Geo on the WFAN morning show came down with something that sounds like this. Got me wondering if the 1 or 2 day bug was making another pass. Man I hate that thing.
I thought it was one of those 1000 Dances at Wilson Pickett sang about.... do the shagilla, let your backbone sli-pah!
But on a serious note I had a semi-annual a few weeks ago and my nurse practitioner asked me if I had heard about that and the effects it was having South of where I live in a metropolitan area and I had heard about it but I didn’t realize that it was drug resistant...
