This individual’s syntax is slavic.
I’d say that is a very astute analysis.
2 Peter 3:9
Thank you for pointing that out - you are right. Rurikids
I think that’s exaggerated a bit. Be that as it may there was certainly cultural continuity even if there wasn’t genetic (Which I doubt was zero!).
I mentioned Alsace-Lorraine in the context of the start of WWII — not today — as an admittedly imperfect analogy to the history of Russia and Ukraine since the breakup of the Soviet Union.
The point I was making is that history did not begin with the Russian invasion.
There has always been a pretty enflamed division between East Slavs like in the Kingdom of Ruthenia / Galicia / Volhynia/ Poland (Catholic) and West Slavs (Orthodox). Yes, the Rurikids were on both sides of that divide (east until 1323 and West through Ivan the Terrible) and yes, the same genetics. Same cultural and national backgrounds from a 21st century perspective? I don’t think so - they hate each other too much. Kind of like saying the English and Irish are the same culture and nationality. That’s how I see it.
You and I are too far apart on this. I’ve read a lot of the history. Have you read Bloodlands?
Well, my point is that there certainly was history between Ukraine and Russia prior to the seizure of the Crimea in 2014 and then the invasion, rocket-bombing of major cities, and subsequent annexation of territory - all by Russia, starting on Feb. 24, 2022 - but there is ALWAYS "history."
My point is that there was no legitimate casus belli - no valid reason for Russia to launch a massive invasion, resulting in untold civilian casualties, and then to annex large swathes of Ukrainian territory.
Simply pointing out that there is "history" between the two sovereign countries, as you have done, is banal, non-productive, and distracting.
Your "point" adds nothing to the conversation - and is hence not really a "point" at all.
Regards,
Spit it out! Say the whole sentence! For the world to hear!
You are seriously claiming that the U.K. and/or the U.S. are forcing the Ukrainians to fight against the Russian invasion?!
Because the U.K. and/or the U.S. somehow influenced the drawing-up of the Russia-Ukrainian borders?
Incredible!
Regards,
+1
I could be wrong. Thanks for referring me to Bloodlands,
Despite its length, it was written well enough to keep me reading to the end. Too bad it does not reflect conventional wisdom, let alone guide policy. As far as policy goes, our side is groping as usual.
Who would Jesus rape and murder for Putin?
