*US Navy Secretary Carlos Del Toro voiced concern in remarks on Wednesday
*Said China has 340 active warships, compared to about 280 for the US Navy
*Claimed US naval shipyards can't match the output of Chinese ones
The US Secretary of the Navy has raised the alarm that China's naval fleet surpasses America's in number of ships, and is growing faster than the US has current capacity to match.
'It is no secret that the People's Republic of China seeks to upend our dominance on the oceans across the globe,' said Navy Secretary Carlos Del Toro in remarks at the National Press Club in Washington DC on Wednesday.
Del Toro said that China's navy has recently added over one hundred combatants to its fleet, calling it 'a naval buildup that is a key component of its increasingly aggressive military posture globally.'

It would also save money if we shut down overseas military bases and rebuilt them along our borders.
china does everything in scale.
if we have 300 main ships, china will push to get 3,000+ main ships.
it’s just how they think.
you can thank the clintons, walmart, 0bama, soros, and the dnc for this mess.

Americans were a different breed of people back then.
Different work ethic.
Different religious upbringing.
Different respect for work and family.
And yes...
Different racial and culturally.
Sorry, that does matter.
With modern damage control I doubt any of our CVNs would actaully ever be sunk. The question is how fast can they be repaired?
It’s the same across the board for any defense related acquisition. The defense industry lobbies and outright bribes congress to keep defense procurement a convoluted mess.
The result is everything takes forever because defense contractors know that as long as they don’t deliver the cash keeps rolling in.
And the rare program that does get cancelled just means the money goes to another program.
Occasionally a program breaks the mold and delivers in a reasonable time frame, but that is a rare exception.
Ha! The joke is on China. There a Navy is full of toxic masculinity, and they don’t have any diversity or drag queens or females at sea. We’re going to totally kick their ass.
“With modern damage control I doubt any of our CVNs would actaully ever be sunk”.
Never say never. A small nuke on an anti-ship missile would do the job. The Russians and Chinese have Carrier Killers.
Yeah yeah, and World War II before the war started all we heard about was buck tooth Japanese, and crappy airplanes, and their navy was garbage and they had poor vision and couldn’t see at night. Turned out not to exactly be the case.
I do not believe that Amerika even has the infrastructure to self-source all the necessary components to 1) build entire ships 2) manufacture the necessary munitions it would require. That carries over to all branches of the military.
The Amerikan economy has been downgraded to the point where we could not fight a real war. We don’t have the chips, factories, infrastructure to support a military in the field for very long (using existing stockpiles) and the time it takes to create the infrastructure is lengthy and a major war would be lost before they could come online even assuming our factories and infrastructure were left unmolested by an enemy.
It is a good thing to have a large navy.
It is a very good thing for that large navy to win battles at sea.
We live in interesting time.

If we start using nukes then the number of ships don’t matter. Nuclear war isn’t war it is suicide. I’d rather die early on if we start nuking each other.
Interesting that you say that. Not a doubt in my mind that the 1980s US Navy could annihilate the modern US Navy. Not even close.
The Chinese and Russians are careful to send seagoing tugboats with their fleets. This gives a clue to the quality. Not to mention the poor sailors who need special counselling when they spend more that a couple of weeks away from home.
Not to worry….we’re sending billions to the Ukraine Navy ! lol
Not the same at all.
