With modern damage control I doubt any of our CVNs would actaully ever be sunk. The question is how fast can they be repaired?

Never say never. A small nuke on an anti-ship missile would do the job. The Russians and Chinese have Carrier Killers.

Modern torpedoes are way much more stronger than the past.

They can send one under the hull and crack it open...or use a nuclear tipped torpedo.
