Let's see now if Trump praised a Democrt.

Charlie Chist was Governor of Florida from January 2, 2007 – January 4, 2011.

His political party affiliation(s) were as follows:

Republican (before 2010)
Independent (2010–2012)
Democratic (since 2012)

Well, golly no, he was a Republican who then became an Independent, who finally became a Democrat after his Florida governorship had ended.

He only served one term because he showed his true colors that he wasn't a Republican at all. Just another RINO. But Trump said Florida did great under him, not that Charlie Crist himself was great.

In other words, Florida is great, because of the people, not because of the political leadership.

Unfortunately, Trump is still the best option. The alternative is either a Dem, a RINO or someone who is, unlike Trump the billionaire, reliant on corporate donors to support their election campaign and will always lobby for policies that screw over blue collar workers and the middle classes.

The claim that Trump doesn’t need investors is simply a fable. His two campaigns of the past were largely financed by casino moguls, hedge funds, Disney, and Pfizer. His Truth social website was initially setup by Chinese fundraisers. It’s all documented, his adoring fans just refuse to look.

Trump will see to it that the Democrats win in 2024. If he wins the nomination he will have burned too many bridges to get there and if he loses the nomination he will go third party (another Perot) which will guarantee a Democrat win. Any way you look at it he’s a loser.

Crist was elected to the governorship of Florida in the 2006 election, defeating Democrat Jim Davis 52-45%. In his inaugural pledge to the people of Florida, he promised to lower taxes, improve the state education system, reduce crime, lower drug costs, expand access to health insurance, assist senior citizens, and protect the environment.
However, his promise to lower taxes would prove to be difficult to keep during the Great Recession, and he eventually relented in 2009 after being sent a budget by the Florida legislature which included a 2.2 billion dollar raise in taxes and fees. He also had a mixed record on environmental issues. Nonetheless, Crist remained widely popular with Floridians during his term, and an April 2009 poll showed him with a 68 percent approval rating among Republicans and independents and a 66 percent approval rating among Democrats.

Crist drew criticism from the right for supporting the Obama administration’s economic stimulus plan.

In 2010, rather than seek reelection as governor, he left the Republican Party to run for the Senate as an Independent. Shortly thereafter, Crist announced that he had moderated his views against LGBT adoption and marriage.

Fundraising controversies

In February 2006, Crist attended a fundraiser at Mar-A-Lago, hosted by Donald Trump, with guests paying $500 to attend.

Two of the guests became subjects of controversy. Crist returned $1,000 in campaign contributions to one of those guests as a result.

In 2009, Crist saw the man he had chosen as Florida GOP finance chairman, his former fraternity brother, oil magnate Harry Sargeant III, forced to step down. One of Sargeant’s employees, Ala’a al-Ali of the Dominican Republic, was indicted in Los Angeles for organizing $5,000 in illegal campaign contributions to Crist, as well as $50,000 to presidential candidates Hillary Clinton, John McCain and Rudy Giuliani.

Trump’s narcissistic desperation is bringing him and his top primary opponent down.

Thanks for the summary! Nothing terrible with Crist, from the sounds of it. But obviously that was 15 years ago...but my assumption stands!

Trump invited Crist to his place back then, had a great time, and probably never thought about him again, until he was recounting Florida governors. One has to remember that Trump was a ‘business man’ until running for prez, and once running for that job, he obviously didn’t have much time to follow state-level politics.

Having said all that, Trump could certainly use someone loyal (like 99% of FReepers) to review what he’s going to say...but he never will.

I’ve been saying I wish Trump had half the class and charisma as Ronald Reagan. Right now even 10% would look pretty good.

How ridiculous. Now there are truths that cannot be spoken because they are about a Democrat. “Had high numbers” is not praise. It’s fact. Pitiful.

Trump’s narcissistic desperation is bringing him and his top primary opponent down.

To be honest, I do not think this is hurting DeSantis with most voters. It is only Trump cultists who are on the anti-DeSantis circus.

Crist ran on conservative principles including tax cuts, but governed more like a moderate.

His endorsement of Obama and Obama legislation shows he is just another big spender, like many other Republicans who would switch to the Dem party if it meant political power.
