A woman who authorities say was kidnapped after meeting a man in New Mexico last year and eventually brought to New Jersey reportedly managed to escape her alleged captor by making a mad dash for a nearby gas station.
James W. Parrillo Jr., 57, was arrested on Feb. 7, after the woman, whose name has not been released by authorities, allegedly escaped from the Bass River Township residence they shared and fled to a nearby gas station, the New Jersey Attorney General’s Office said in a statement on Friday.
Parrillo is charged with first-degree kidnapping, second-degree strangulation and aggravated assault, and third-degree criminal restraint. The woman met Parillo, whom she knew as "Brett Parker," at a gas station on Interstate 10 in New Mexico sometime in February 2022," according to court documents.

Meet a stranger at a gas station what could go wrong ?
Suspect there is far more to the story and this guy will have a plausible defense.
“They’re just doing the kidnapping and rapes that Americans refuse to do.” - G W MORON
From the comments section of the article:
Ladies, Prince Charming is not hanging out at a gas station with no car.
About sums it up.
“Woman kidnapped in border state, held captive for nearly 1 year escapes to New Jersey gas station”
Poor woman, it’s bad enough to be kidnapped, but anyone who’s dealt with New Jersey gas stations (where they don’t even allow you to pump your own gas) knows things are now FAR WORSE for her.
She might have stayed in capitivity a little longer if she knew she was in NJ.
The guy is a creepy looking dude. Never go anywhere near creepy looking guys
These “kidnapped and couldn’t escape for months/years stories never quite pass the smell test.
I guess that’s better than hooking up at Kmart.
Who is “they”? Italian guys?
wow.
“.. escapes to New Jersey gas station: police..”
You don’t escape to New Jersey, you escape FROM New Jersey.
Jordan Peterson has interesting things to say about women who may never have had a decent male figure in their lives (absent father or toxic father). They may not develop the ability to spot non-toxic males.
A competent, responsible, strong male might be perceived as “too strong” and therefore domineering and dangerous — “fight the patriarchy!!”.
A tough, aggressive psycho might be perceived as a strong protector who can shield a frightened female from a dangerous world.
Bad choices can be made. It helps children so much if they can grow up in a stable household with two parents, neither of which are mentally ill. Sadly, this seems to be a rare event these days.
Hmmm...is that better or worse than meeting your mate at Walmart?
Sounds like Meghan Markle or Yoko Ono, except the beatings are all emotional.
Nothing to do with it happening in a border state, she is an idiot that hooked up with a total stranger at a truck stop.
Hmm... Not defending the guy here but this is a crime?
Seems an obvious violation of Fifth Amendment rights against self-incrimination.
Typical Democrat.
Understood, ... I think you're asking the right question.
I have not heard of that "offense" previously, but I'm not a lawyer or up to date on Law.
I have heard of Judges ordering DNA samples after a court appearance with counsel for the defendant present.
