Measure would allow noncitizens to vote in Illinois school board elections

Some see a measure at the statehouse as a threat to democracy by allowing non-citizens in Illinois to vote in school board elections. Others see it as giving them a voice in their child's education.

State Sen. Celina Villanueva, D-Chicago, said her Senate Bill 1345 is an extension of a bill that already allows for undocumented residents to vote on local school councils in Chicago. She said this needs to be expanded across the state because these families have children in public schools where they pay taxes.

“This gives people an opportunity to be able to have a voice, especially in their children’s education,” Villanueva told The Center Square.

The bill, if passed into law, would task the Illinois State Board of Education to create a voter registration affidavit as a way for “a noncitizen of the United States” to register to vote in school board elections.

Villanueva’s bill states “the elections conducted under the provisions are considered non-State elections and are not subject to the citizenship requirement in the Illinois Constitution.”

State Sen. Terri Bryant, R-Murphysboro, said Villenuava’s bill goes too far.

“Obviously one of our most sacred rights as an American is to determine who our elected officials are,” Bryant told The Center Square. “That’s part of being an American citizen.”

“We want have a voice in jour goberment, and rule ju”

We’ve been hearing this in the Southwest for 50 years now, and they pretty much won.

Pretty sure the Rats of Illinois have already drawn up surrender terms.

Because they’ll only vote in school elections, right?

They admit they’re illegal and they’re allowed to stay in the country and the taxpayers pay for everything.

A buddy of mine went to Australia for a summer after he graduated. The Aussies like lacrosse and let people come in to play for a summer. I think he got a 90 or 120 day visa.

He wanted to extend it to do a bit more traveling.

Aussies told him, NOPE. They also advised that if he wasn’t on the plane they’d come looking for him.

Along with citizens who, thanks to Deep State, can’t afford to move.

“ This gives people an opportunity to be able to have a voice, especially in their children’s education,“

So long as the choice does not include vouchers for taking your kids to a non-gov school.

Non citizens would be smarter voters than the stool samples in Chicago.

“Pay Taxes?” Most illegals are paid in cash. How do they pay taxes without a SSN?

That's a special kind of crazy for someone to think that could possibly make sense. Noncitizens voting to influence policy that citizens will have to obey and may go against he wishes of the majority of actual citizens who voted in any given election.

Noncitizens doesn’t necessarily mean illegal...though in this case I bet it does.

But noncitizens of any stripe should not be voting in elections to effect outcomes actual citizens would have to abide by. That’s a special kind of crazy to argue it makes sense.
