John Fetterman (D-PA) is reportedly set to miss weeks of work after checking himself into a hospital this week for severe depression.
NBC News reporter Dasha Burns tweeted, “A senior aide to Senator Fetterman tells me he will likely be in inpatient care for clinical depression for ‘a few weeks.'”
“A senior aide says it’s been difficult to distinguish the stroke from the depression – saying it’s hard to tell at times if Fetterman is ‘not hearing you, or is he sort of crippled by his depression and social anxiety,'” Burns continued. “A senior aide tells me both the staff and Fetterman himself were taken by surprise by the severe onset of depression.”
“The aide also says this hasn’t compromised his ability to do the job going forward, and he will be back to work once he has taken care of his mental health,” Burns added.
Fetterman’s office revealed Thursday that the freshman senator checked himself into a hospital on Wednesday night for mental health issues.
The statement said that the decision to check Fetterman into the hospital came after the attending physician of the United States Congress recommended that he do so.
“Last night, Senator John Fetterman checked himself into Walter Reed National Military Medical Center to receive treatment for clinical depression,” his office said. “While John has experienced depression off and on throughout his life, it only became severe in recent weeks.”
“On Monday, John was evaluated by Dr. Brian P. Monahan, the Attending Physician of the United States Congress,” the statement said. “Yesterday, Dr. Monahan recommended inpatient care at Walter Reed. John agreed, and he is receiving treatment on a voluntary basis.”
The New York Times reported late last week that Fetterman was struggling with “serious mental health” issues and often cannot understand the words that others are saying to him following the stroke that nearly killed him last year.
The report said that Fetterman’s struggles are significantly worse when he is under any kind of stress.
Fetterman has indicated that when he’s under stress, people’s voices become muffled, the report said.
The report comes following Fetterman’s hospitalization last week after feeling lightheaded at a Democrat Senate retreat.
Fetterman’s staff claimed that doctors said that he did not have another stroke and that they were checking for signs of seizures.
The report noted that the stroke last year has taken a “very real psychological toll” on him and that he has “had to come to terms with the fact that he may have set himself back permanently by not taking the recommended amount of rest during the campaign.”
Fetterman’s office released a statement last Friday claiming that medical tests from the health episode came back negative.
“A few minutes ago, Senator John Fetterman was discharged from The George Washington University Hospital,” the statement said. “In addition to the CT, CTA, and MRI tests ruling out a stroke, his EEG test results came back normal, with no evidence of seizures.”
His idiocy has become terminal.
We’ve tightened the bolts in his neck as much as we can.
We dont know how long he will last.
There is no 25th-Amendment type procedure for replacing an incapacitated Senator. If he were to go into a coma, unable to resign, he’d continue to hold the seat. The Senate can, with 2/3rds majority, vote to remove him a procedure usually reserved for gross misconduct.
Has the Senate ever voted to expel a member?
+1
So that’s 51-49 in the senate now, right?
I think my “Give a $hit” meter needs new batteries. It’s been stuck on zero for weeks.
Stevie Wonder could see this coming.
Sad what people will do for power and money.
Feinstein isn't in the best of health. If they lose two votes it's 49-49
I think naming his wife will be harder than one thinks. There are a lot of Pa. Dems who likely believe thry have a lot more cred and right to take the seat and and Shapiro may be far more beholden to them than to Fetterman’s wife.
You forgot the medias bending over to get him elected.
That's what happens when your state is full of stupid people. I get Oz wasn't perfect, or even good, but on what planet would Fetterman be preferable to him?
He and about half of the voters in Pennsylvania were taken by surprise at how suddenly this came on.
Popular among chicks and suburban moms, popular with blue-collar unionistas not so much. They were convinced Fetterman was one of them. He made that sale long before the midterms back when he was first elected. The incongruous part of this many of those blue-collar guys were Trump voters.
I may get depressed too if I suddenly went from doing nothing but hanging out in gym shorts and a hoodie with others taking care of every need my whole life to having to get formally dressed and show up for a real job everyday.
This explains why he ran for the Senate, free Medical Care while earning a massive income,,,,,a real con job on American Taxpayers,,,,,suckers all.
Fraud notwithstanding, the voters of Pennsylvania are now contenders for the stupidest group of people to ever roam the earth.
So utterly worthless to humanity these people are, they voted against the best interest of themselves and their families to elect a brain damaged charity case so they could have an “I did the right thing” orgasm.
What do you call a retarded person who suffers brain damage from a stroke?
Answer - US Senator Fetterman from Pennsylvania !!
Everyone is talking about the recent study how kids can't handle the pressure of a 9-5 and get depressed.
She may not be a natural born citizen but she is not an illegal alien. She is married to an American citizen which makes her a legal American citizen. Calling her an illegal alien just makes you look stupid.
They got his body across the finish line. Doesn’t matter what it does once that is accomplished.
