a) careless planning “eh, these artefacts are the result of prior experiments in the base sequences of whatever we used as a starting point, no time to fix it, it’ll ‘probably’ be ok?”
b) negligence — hey, while we’re at it, lets not check for analogues to any known sequences at key points
c) pushy negligence — hey, let’s put in all these things just to keep an eye on what happens
d) Snidely Whiplash — let’s include all these other coding sequences cause we might be able to use them for nefarious purposes X,Y, and Z later on

Long ago I was a molecular biology student at UCSD in 1975. We were fed papers describing genetic manipulation of organisms. The papers stressed that the organisms selected always had a deficiency that made them incapable of living outside of the lab experiment for lack of some specific nutrient. Many of us were skeptical of the claim. It is wholly conceivable that a mutation would solve the deficiency or an uncontrolled environment would provide the missing requirement. Clearly playing with fire. This mistake with the plasmids in the LNP wrapped mRNA is beyond a fire.
