“You can’t really ‘defeat’ an insurgency that has the general support of the local population...”
An ancient maxim. And it has stood the test of time. The only way to prevail over a popular insurgency is via total extermination. And, even at that, it would not be a defeat. Defeat comes when one side quits or surrenders and subjects itself to the tender mercies of its foe. Dying in defense of what you hold dear is just that...dying (and the death is an honorable one).
Another maxim (paraphrased): The true warrior can be killed, but never defeated.
What else would a Putin Fanboi post?
Afghanistan was our “Suez Canal” moment. Change my mind
You guys are dreaming:
Map: European colonialism conquered every country in the world but these five

We, specifically, Victoria Nuland, are responsible for the war in Ukraine. We fomented a revolution in Ukraine. We illegally installed a government that was hostile to both the ethnic Russian population and to Russia. That setoff a civil war. We trained, funded and enabled neo-Nazis and Ukrainian nationalists to persecute and murder the ethnic Russian population. We told Ukraine to sign and not abide by the Minsk Agreement that would have brought peace to Ukraine. We armed Ukraine with offensive weapons, ran biolabs with deadly pathogens in them and teased NATO membership for it making Ukraine a national security threat to Russia. And, we squashed a deal between Russia and Ukraine in March that would have ended the war.
Larry Johnson is always Russian propaganda
LOL
They have all been destroyed if we had given them to Ukraine.
Ukraine's military, which was the largest in Europe other than Russia's, has been fed into a meat grinder with more than 150,000 dead and 400,000 dead or wounded. Russia has up to a 10-1 end in ammo fired per day and has a huge edge in manufacturing ammo and weapons. Russia controls the airspace and has crippled Ukraine's electric grid.
It only took us 20 years of war to take afghanistan from being ruled by the taliban....
to being ruled by the taliban.
We spend a lot of money and build a lot of bases but we don’t win wars.
Most of the world is choosing Russia/China over us and there are reasons for that happening.
Hope all the warmongers that are actually Americans are good with our troops going in.
This is a good one, right on the money. Thanks for posting.

a) Colonialism is not quite the same as conquest.
b) Even the most successful European colonizers were never able to fully pacify their possessions. The best evidence of that is that every single one of them (except Russia) eventually gave up their possessions because they were too much trouble to hold on to.
Oh, yeah, those conquered countries were supported by some entity with over 73% of the global GDP, the conquered had reasonably effective weapons, and were conquered and held since WW2.
Moreover, when they couldn’t coopt credible local leaders and such (ain’t gonna happen in most of Ukraine), the conquerers were unhesitatingly brutal if need be, to establish and maintain control. (Try reading Daniel Boone’s diaries.)
Russia (as the Soviets) had some success, again using brutality, but, success did not last long, and it earned them instant mortal enemies (the Poles, for one) when Russia began to expand again.
However, thanks for your opinion that Russia of today is equivalent to the old European colonial powers. Knew it all along, at least when it comes to mindset, intent and brutality.
If DeSantis is ever permitted to win the Presidency he needs to pull the most insubordinate and unconventional warfighting Lt. Colonels he can locate and promote them to senior leadership immediately - firing all of the Obama losers to make room for them.

The Spanish conquistadores would beg to differ. Colonialism and Imperialism are both considered a conquest.
Not every single one of them. For instance, look at Britain...15 nations are under The Commonwealth Realm - 2.2 Billion people. Sovereign nations much like our Indian reservations.
The ones that left the British Empire...it was after decades, and in some cases centuries, of British rule.
That’s just one instance.
Let’s look at Mexico...Spain called it Viceroyalty of New Spain, and ruled it for 300 yrs.
500 yrs later it’s still being debated:

“Moreover, when they couldn’t coopt credible local leaders and such (ain’t gonna happen in most of Ukraine),...”
LOL, after Russia is through with Ukraine, there won’t be any Ukrainian men left to be coopted.
“Russia of today is equivalent to the old European colonial powers. Knew it all along, at least when it comes to mindset, intent and brutality.”
Except they have nuclear weapons with their “mindset, intent and brutality.” Get it?
That’s cute. Thanks.
Can Russia lose this war? Douglas McGregor: “No. Unfortunately, I believe that active preparations are now underway to send the US military to Ukraine. I believe that this is a very dangerous and ill-considered decision, but everything is moving towards this,” he said in an interview YouTube channel “Judging Freedom”.
McGregor believes that the American leader can make such a decision without the approval of Congress, since there are legal grounds for this in the US legislative system. https://youtu.be/oUG74zh5H4Y

A little refresher too:
“Spanish conquistador Hernán Cortés overthrew the Aztec Empire by force and captured Tenochtitlan in 1521, bringing an end to Mesoamerica’s last great native civilization.”
