Rep. Jim Jordan, a Republican from Ohio, caused a stir on Twitter Friday night after he said Democrats in Washington, D.C., were "ridiculous" to support a decision allowing non-citizens the opportunity to vote.
"Only Americans should vote in American elections," said Jordan, prompting backlash.
The Republican’s tweet concerned House Joint Resolution 24, or the "Disapproving the action of the District of Columbia Council in approving the Local Resident Voting Rights Amendment Act of 2022," which passed the House of Representatives on Thursday.
The resolution seeks to overturn a bill that passed the D.C. Council in October, which opened the local voting process to immigrants.

Of course only Americans should vote in American elections, but the liberals want to vote too.
Good one.
I believe that it is in the Constitution that only natural born or new citizens are allowed to vote.
Well, we can allow the world to vote in our elections, but then, we should rule the world. It’s only fair.
Isn’t it amazing what some people will find controversial or outrageous?
It stuns me that anyone would find any objection to a statement that American citizens are the only ones who should vote in elections.
This is a crazy world isn’t it.
This is what mass immigration - legal and illegal - brought us.
In 1970 - even 1980 - the idea that non-citizens could vote was considered absurd.
But the American electorate has been drowned in the past 50 years as the very concept of being “American” has been vaporized.
“It stuns me that anyone would find any objection to a statement that American citizens are the only ones who should vote in elections.”
Maybe because he left out the word citizen ?
Why should this surprize anyone on this forum. Look at how many posters demand the US spend its wealth and eventually blood in a war in the Ukraine. These people positively DEMAND Americans do this and be delighted they have such an opportunity. So this forum is full of loud mouthed non-Americans pretending to be patriots.
Why the nerve of him!!!!!
Sounds reasonable to me.
“Only Americans should vote in American elections.”
How can that statement be remotely controversial?
They’re talking about voting in local elections. But still not right. You can go to Town meeting...be active in groups...but voting is reserved for citizens.
I believe that it is in the Constitution that only natural born or new citizens are allowed to vote.
From Fox -any questions?
In that case why even require them to be in the country? They could just say, “hey I identify as citizen of New York City and I want to vote for mayor, and guess what I’m only 16!” hell why not just create legions of fake citizens and have them vote too?
Everything is rigged.
Do illegal immigrants get to speak at schoolboard meetings?
