Her fetus had a fatal birth defect. She had to fly out of Florida for an abortion

Anabely Lopes wanted a child more than anything, so the 44-year-old was ecstatic when she became pregnant last year — and then devastated when doctors said her unborn child had a fatal abnormality...

A new law restricting abortion access had gone into effect days earlier, and Lopes soon found herself on a plane, leaving South Florida to get an abortion at a clinic in Washington.

On Tuesday, Lopes will return to Washington, this time accompanying U.S. Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz to President Joe Biden’s State of the Union address...

The infanticide-loving Miami Florida media is hyping this woman's story.

No skepticism, no questioning of the Demon Rat party's narrative...so, it isn't journalism. Instead, it is a house organ playing the hymns of the Democrat death cult.

Gosh how awful for her.
What an ordeal she went through.
The baby probably didn’t enjoy it either...

So….. the law worked.
She got on plane to another state, where it’s legal to terminate a less than perfect child after 16 weeks of pregnancy. Then, She could have gotten on a plane and flown to Nevada to be with a prostitute and gamble, then flown to Colorado to smoke some weed.

States have the power, she should focus her complaint in Florida, not with the Feds.

Was this her 1st abortion? Sounds like she delayed having kids buying into feminist dogma.

44 years old is well past safe child bearing years, even for the most healthy mother. What did she expect?

Also the story is paywalled. Any mention of a committed, supporting husband? Or her own ability to support the child?

The whole thing reeks of selfishness, if not outright theatrics.

I don’t there’s a law banning an abortion for a critical medical situation in any state.

44 years old, huh?

At least they were open enough to print what probably was the underlying reason for the baby’s fatal heart condition.

This is the epitome of a fake news story. While the events may or may not be accurate, this reporting is done to stir up emotions on the side of abortion.

U.S. Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, D-Weston, said Monday she is bringing Anabely Lopes, a Hallandale Beach woman who terminated “a very wanted” pregnancy when her fetus was diagnosed with trisomy 18, also called Edwards’ syndrome, last summer. Those who survive the pregnancy are still likely to die once born.

“We felt it was our duty to protect our daughter from the inevitable suffering if she were to make it to term,” Lopes said, in tears.

It was a baby she had wanted, having her previous pregnancy result in a miscarriage.

She said she was turned away from a pregnancy clinic in Tamarac because her test results took too long to come back, and she was now just one day past the legal limit for an abortion when she got the confirmation results.

Last year Florida’s governor signed a 15-week abortion ban into law with no exceptions. ***

On Monday, Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz comforts Anabely Lopes, a Hallandale Beach resident, who said she had to leave the state for an abortion. Lopes will be Wasserman Schultz’s guest at President Joe Biden’s State of the Union address to Congress on Tuesday.

Lopes said she had to leave Florida to Washington, D.C., for the procedure at 16 weeks and three days. She said she was so distraught she considered suicide. “It was very painful for me to decide to do this,” she cried.

Edwards’ syndrome (trisomy 18) - NHS

Apr 20, 2022Most babies with this type of Edward’s syndrome who are born alive will live for at least a year, and they may live to adulthood. Partial Edwards’ syndrome A very small number of babies with Edwards’ syndrome (about 1 in 100) have only a section of the extra chromosome 18 in their cells, rather than a whole extra chromosome 18.

This is a BS story the doctors refused to write the diagnosis letters confirming the abortion was necessary where thee caption to the law could be used.

We lost our child to trisomy 18. The last paragraph of this article is complete bunk. The *vast* majority of babies don’t even survive the pregnancy, and the tiny fraction that do are highly unlikely to survive even a year past the birth. I would challenge the author to cite any case where someone survived to adulthood. Trisomy 18 is diagnosed in the womb through the identification of substantial physical abnormalities, including a severely enlarged heart.

We lost our son at 4 months gestation when his heart stopped. They gave my wife an abortifacient a few days later to make it easier to remove the corpse, and she ended up actually delivering in the ER before they could perform the evacuation. Because he was delivered intact, the hospital was very interested in examining his body. We declined to allow them to perform any physical dissection, as we wanted to give him a proper burial, but did permit them to do any non-intrusive tests. They actually drove one of those truck mounted scan machines up from Boston, and a whole troop of medical students came up to see our son.

You know that there are people every day flying to the Mayo Clinic or Houston Medical Center from all over the USA for special treatments.

Anabely Lopes? What is her immigration status? She could go back to Mexico and get a million abortions there, oh wait, abortion is ILLEGAL IN MEXICO!

It's not the abortion that horrified the Miami Herald, it's that the poor woman had to FLY.

I have read that the law in Floriduh is there is no time limit on abortion if the baby has a fatal abnormality.

So yes, this is a vomit-inducing political stunt by Washerwoman-Schultz and a useful minority woman, probably planned in advance to create an event for the SOTU teleprompter reading.

To expand further on my point: There was honestly no reason for this lady to have to fly out of Florida. For one thing, her baby’s condition is nearly universally fatal before birth. Secondly, why would she be in such a hurry to terminate her pregnancy if it was so wanted? The odds of the baby surviving to term are infinitesimal, and she could have spent what time she had left enjoying her pregnancy. When the inevitable happened, even Florida would have allowed the procedure that would remove her child’s corpse from her womb.
