The war between Russia and Ukraine started long before February 24, 2022. Russian aggression has been constant ever since Vladimir Putin came to power in the late nineties. However, it was the illegal annexation of Crimea in 2014 that started the current conflict. The crazy part is NATO and the rest of the world just watched as Russian forces invaded Crimea in an eerily similar way to how Nazi Germany annexed Austria, Czechoslovakia, and the Rhineland before launching its invasion of Poland and starting World War II.

There's a point at which such analogies become rather... strained.

With respect and using history as a guide, the long European tale of colonial power and rule suggests that Russia is not alone in the game. Even now, Macron's France has its problems with their once-colonies not wanting the "help" of Mother France, and of course Germany has its own tale to tell of invading many nations, subjugating them and annexing territory. Add to the larger picture the American military in so many nations, such as Syria currently where we are no longer wanted, and one has a canvas on which to portray many things. How many nations has our good old USofA invaded since 2000 for the "war on terror?"
Then of course there is the interesting tale of the European Union, which some European opponents of the "EU Commission" specifically are calling -- as was the USSR called -- a "union of collective republics," or EUSSR? After all, that was the verbiage in the British press, as one example of many, during the Brexit campaign.
Nobody should have to be forced to be a part of that _hithole Ukraine. Uke leaders chosen to promote the interests of other countries, carry out crimes and steal from their own and others abroad while sending their own to die while they amass riches for their greedy selves.
Who wants to be part of a country who sends a bunch of Nazis to make war and murder it’s “own” so called citizens who speak a little differently and don’t wish to be a part of the Bandera worshippers?
Zelensky said he was going to clean all that up when he was installed. He was just full of coked up BS because he is a puppet and nothing more.
Incorrect!
In the Versaille Peace Treaty, Alsace-Lorraine was awarded to France. The autocthonic populace was divided into various groups, depending upon their ancestry / degree of "belonging" to the region. Germans whose grandparents were from the old German Empire (Class "D") were essentially deported.
Regards,
You make an interesting argument about Crimea. I see Crimea as historically part of Russia. You do not. Now here’s the thing. We’re both right!
It all depends on what year you pick as the starting point.
As a rather extreme example, who has the best claim to Long Island? The Delaware Indians? The Dutch? The British crown? The US? Even folks who say the Delaware Indians must consider if the Delaware tribe pushed out earlier inhabitants.
So as I see it, it’s either endless war or acceptance of the current reality. Crimea is now ethnically Russian. So leave it in Russia. But Ukraine is not. Russia has no business being there.
Give that man a cigar!

“Important to remember that before 1944 there were almost no Russians in Crimea. Stalin had the inhabitants cleansed and replaced with the Russians who are there now.”
I remember when the Ukrainian government was committing genocidal ethnic cleansing against the Russian-speaking Ukrainians in the Donbass that eventually motived Russia to stop that crap in 2014. Everyone seems to have forgotten about that. I guess it’s okay for the Ukes to commit ethnic cleansing, but not the Ruskies.
I wonder, if you went back now, if the views might have changed.
After living without power or water for farming or even civilian consumption ( Zelensky did a comedy sketch on that in 2013) under Kiev, and having experienced ethnic suppression in the crackdown to harden
Ukrainian national identity. Bankova does not love Crimean people, only Crimean territory.
Were they ever to be “ liberated” by Ukraine, the retaliatory “ cleansing” that would be visited on Crimeans…would be epic.
This - at least in part - corroborates the findings of my informal straw poll.
Let me again emphasize that I was simply "asking around" - not conducting a scientific survey.
My evidence is purely anecdotal. But I think that the figure ("58%") for "Russian ethnicity" may have been skewed upwards by the sizable population of Russian military stationed there short-term. That shouldn't really count.

This is standard DC neocon fantasy porn. Your initial comment of “have fun” indicates you know this. Sadly, their fantasy porn guides their action in the real world
If Ukraine could retake Crimea, then Putin would fall, then Russia would have a civil war, then it would collapse.....
If we had some ham, we could have ham and eggs. That is, if we had some eggs....
Unless we intervene, Ukraine does not have the military strength to retake the Crimea.
Back in the 50’s, in Greece, America learned that a very few Americans working with better supplied local forces could defeat the enemies. The Greeks defeated the real communist onslought. American doctrine changed
Today the Americans are probably in Poland training up the Ukrainian forces on the new weapons being provided. The training for the tanks will take months.
Meanwhile individual Russians are being killed in their trenches by the constantly observing drones always watching from above. The Ukrainians are observing wearing uniforms and helmets that are military surplus created by the new and better supplied to American troops
Silly fantasy
Russia has several hundred thousand men buried in Crimea.
Name one of those international treaties.
We have a massive invasion happening on our southern border. Let's take care of that war first.
"False Dilemma" Fallacy!
We can do both.
The negligence if not outright treasonous refusal of the Biden Administration to protect our southern border in no wise diminishes our interest in beating down an aggressive, avaricious, autocratic state led (for the time being) by Putin.
Regards,
The Russian population was predominant since the 19th century.
It is interesting that you have a memory of something that did not happen.
