Detroit had a squad like this back in the ‘70’s. I don’t remember the exact details but they got a reputation for thuggery too and was disbanded.
I think the concept is good, but it’s clearly apparent that a squad like this needs to be staffed by the very best and every move needs oversight preventing things from getting out of control.

Who was their direct supervisor who allowed this Memphis Police Gang of executioners to terrorize the streets of Memphis?

It would be good to see statistics on if the unit helped to lower crime.
