Government officials are calling for calm ahead of the planned nationwide protests over the Tyre Nichols bodycam footage, which will be released tonight, as the Georgia governor activated 1,000 National Guard troops and Capitol Hill amped up security.
Many cities, including Memphis and New York City, are gearing up to protest after the gruesome footage, which has been described as worse than Rodney King, on the Memphis Police Department's YouTube page at 7pm. Police are releasing the footage later a night to allow people to get home beforehand.
Nichols, 29, was brutally beaten like a 'human piñata' by five Memphis, Tennessee, police officers, who were all African American, on January 7 and died three days later in the hospital from kidney failure and cardiac arrest.
Georgia Governor Brian Kemp, 59, has declared a state of emergency until Tuesday, February 9. Kemp called in the National Guard following an anti-cop protest last weekend in Atlanta after an environmental activist died and said Georgia is 'closely monitoring the events in Memphis.'
Capitol Hill also amped up security in anticipation of widespread protests. President Joe Biden, 80, has called for calm ahead of the video release and said Nichols' death is a 'painful reminder' that the US' justice system has seen many 'fatal encounters with law enforcement [that] have disparately impacted black and brown people.'

Announcing a day and time was unnecessary to begin with. That just provided time for preparation, organization, etc., of demonstrations, riots, etc, Why allow things to get started after dark? That always works to the advantage of the rioters and to the added danger to police and citizens. It also gave the mediots an opportunity build up anticipation, almost making mayhem inevitable.
This whole thing was handled about as stupidly as possible.
These rioters do not venture in to my neck of the woods. I wonder why?
In this case it is nothing more than a bunch of mindless crap. The cops are already being severely punished. including murder charges. They should be protesting government corruption.
Only saw a few portions of the videoes. If I would have been him, I would have tried to run away to. The guy was scared unto death.
Heard ANTIFA put out fliers in NYC telling people to bring rocks,, bottles etc to the protests.

The elites want you paralyzed and helpless so you will obey orders.
They are less than one tenth of one percent of the population attempting to manipulate you through their control of the mass media and “the narrative”.
What you need to start thinking about is how you can turn the tables on them.
Step 1:
Turn off your TV.
Better yet throw it in the trash.
Let that be your protest and your declaration of independence.
Step 2:
Most big corporations support the rioters.
It is time for you to start your own personal boycott.
Buy local from people you know and trust.

If you stop rewarding rioters, maybe fewer of them will riot. If you reward rioters, you’re rewarding them for the wrong behavior. The result is that you’ll always have riots.
Peaceful so far in KCMO. My niece is a KCPD. She said there’s no indications of riots but they are prepared.

The local news stations this morning were doing their part and informing everyone there would be protests after the video was released this evening. The media was working it hard.
