Many suburbs including Detroit ones are populated by people who got fed up with the City of Detroit and moved out in “white flight.” Old grudges intact. The late-—prescient—conservative county administrator L. Brooks Patterson said long ago “What we need is a wall to be built on 8 Mile Road (dividing line of city limits of Detroit and 5 suburbs) and Detroit can keep its robbers and rapists and carjackers on their side.”

No chess club or string quartet practice for them.
