On Friday, the Republican National Committee will vote to reject or reelect Ronna McDaniel as the party’s chair. I wanted to let the dust settle before writing about it, preferring to take a bigger look at the state of things and consider it alongside the battle in the House over the speakership. But two things happened today that upped the ante and are worth touching on in brief.
First, in an interview with Charlie Kirk, Gov. Ron DeSantis weighed in against McDaniel from Florida and said it is time for new leadership. He accurately summarized her tenure as a disappointment.
We’ve had three substandard election cycles in a row, ’18, ’20, and ’22, and I would say of all three of those, ’22 was probably the worst, given the political environment of a very unpopular President Biden, huge majorities of the people think the country is going in the wrong direction. That is an environment that’s tailor-made to make big gains in the House and Senate and state houses all across the country, and yet that didn’t happen.
Second, Rasmussen Reports published a survey this afternoon that found fewer than 1-in-5 Republican voters want McDaniel reelected as chair of the RNC.

All this is making the elephant in the room grow bigger by the hour: although he has not publicly endorsed McDaniel, Trump and his camp have whipped on her behalf. Trump himself has been careful to avoid doing this in an overt way. But money talks, and you just have to listen carefully.

Make the captain go down faster than the sinking ship.
The more things stay the same, until something snaps!
I believe Trump said he is staying out of it.
Change is going back to lawyers turned career politicians?
My preference is for Mike Lindell. The RNC needs a strong, take-charge kind of leader who would hire an aggressive team of political operatives and then back them to the hilt.
“I believe Trump said he is staying out of it.”
Why would Trump stay out of this, of all things? An opinion on everything but the RNC Chair??
Does not compute.
Truly end all political cheating, no matter who ends up as RNC Chair!
Mike Lindell
Well sounds like its gonna be the Indian chick...probably for the reasons you cite about Lindell...can’t have too much success, now can we.
Might as well have a Bollywood musical...

I think he said earlier that he supported McDaniel, but it seems he has fallen silent as he has realized how unpopular she is. But, as the article says, follow the money stream.
That was one of Trump’s big problems all along…despite his rhetoric, he went for completely establishment (and sometimes fully Deep State) people as his associates or even to fill positions. I never understood it.
I wouldn’t trust Mike Lindell to do anything more important than selling pillows. The guy has a remarkable life story and his heart is in the right place, but on the political landscape the guy really comes across as an inept doofus.
Maybe the GOP needs to replace the elephant with the rino. Or maybe the Weasel or chameleon.
I’ve always felt that whenever there is some big issue going on in the country that is dividing groups of people, the President doesn’t always have to weigh in on it. Most of the time, it is probably better if they don’t. In Trumps case...no matter what he says, he will get blasted so why should he say anything?
That’s what he said.....he’s not taking sides.
Probably because he likes all three contenders.
And so she will be re-elected. The GOP voters are like mushrooms. At least Dem voters get free stuff. GOP voters never get smaller government, border security, education reforms...
Publicly. But behind the scenes, his operation has been whipping votes for Ronna.
He endorsed both McCain and Romney, not just when they ran for president, but in their Senate races. He’s made a lot of bad endorsements, Oz being one of the most current examples.
