The Food and Drug Administration on Tuesday proposed significant limits on levels of lead in processed baby food that could reduce exposure to the contaminant by as much as 27%.
The new draft guidance applies to packaged foods — items sold in jars, pouches, tubs and boxes — intended for babies and children under 2 years old.

I guess after the baby formula debacle, fedzilla wants to make food for infants even more expensive.
Morons.
Lead in baby food? Will they also regulate the amount of thumbtacks?
Just another excuse to seize the power away from the private sector.
Big business farm conglomerates will probably even cheer this, since they have the means to comply but smaller operations will go broke trying to meet these absurd standards.
and gas stoves that cause childhood asthma, oh and abortion that they use to kill at all stages. Such a bunch of lying scumbags
Where, in the supply chain, does lead enter the product? Wouldn’t efforts be better spent there?
Good Lord it should be a given that no amount of lead should be allowed in baby food.
Of course this will make baby food much more expensive. Just another front in the battle to make humans extinct.
They regulate based on amounts that are only harmful in high amounts. I remember a regulation outlawing a pesticide years ago based on testimony about the number of people killed by it worldwide. If you looked into the numbers, the people killed by it drank it to commit suicide.
Current lab equipment can detect extremely tiny levels of lead, far less than harmful levels.
But current government doctrine is that there is NO safe level for lead, so the standard becomes “no detectable level”, a goalpost that moves as equipment gets more sensitive.
How does lead get into food? By being absorbed by plants from the soil.

All Maryland soils contain naturally-occurring background levels of lead, typically less than 50 ppm.
See my prior post. There are natural levels of lead in soil.
Back in my day, we ate lead-flavored baby food and loved it.
There is no magic in store bought baby food. Good grief! Make your own. It’s easy. Take whatever you are eating and smash it up into a pasty goo.
By now we should all know that the “experts” lie in order to sell you a product. They have convinced new mommies that babies can only eat “special” food. Bull shit!!!!
More than likely, this is just more fear mongering.
Lead doesn’t hurt anyone. Just because I have a hard time counting past ten does not mean it was moms fault for painting my chew toys with some old leaded house paint.
That is a scientifically ignorant and politically irresponsible statement that is blissfully unaware of the implications of the phrase "no amount".
Limits? How about no lead at all? Anything more is too much imho at least.
The government is at it again by denying fundamental nutrition to infants. I was so fortunate to literally cut my teeth on lead-based paint chips and was able to breathe lead supplemented air from automobile exhaust as a child. The regulation of baby food is just one of the infinite ways government controls people. It’s not about lead. It’s about people control.
Lead is a component in all metal alloys
Lead is in the soil. It is unavoidable. We have made great strides in making food safe. This is a bureaucratic power grab.
