I've seen videos of this neighborhood, and had wondered what the heck everyone was taking. I saw a lot of people standing motionless, but bending down at odd angles.
I was thinking it was fentanyl, but had never seen that particular behavior.

It’s not new… Kensington was always rough, way back when I was growing up in the 70s. It’s worse now, but it’s not new.
I was stationed at the Navy Base in Philly for a few months in 1968...I never saw anything like it is now...Of course I hardly went more than 4-5 blocks east or west of Broad Street...

My question is how are they able to purchase more drugs, while in that state? They cant rob people, or steal. Withdrawal must really suck.
I grew up in Philly. I knew lots of folks down in Kensington.
It was a damned rough area then.
If it’s changed at all, it just got worse.
It’s not the neighborhood… It’s the people in the neighborhood.
They closed 5 Starbucks and I believe Nordstrom’s downtown store also.
The only way to fix this mess is to institute Singaporean corrections: mandatory death penalty by hanging for drug dealers. Must be carried out immediately after judicial review. No exceptions.
Back in the 70s I lived in the Fairmount section of the city, just south of Girard Avenue. I and everyone I knew was aware that you just don’t go in to Kensington. Not if you want to come back out alive. I can’t imagine trying to live in there.
Execution was used by the Chinese to finally put an end to the opium problem.
