As a group, today’s GOP is the same as the democrats of the Reagan years.

Today’s democrats have brought stupidity and insanity to a new level.

We are doomed.

The federal debt has become an imaginary number, because there is no way to pay it off and soon the interest amount will start to approach the total spending of the federal government, especially if the interest rate follows the Jimmy Carter-era trend.

So default would be option 1, and option 2 would be the old-time solution; conquer another country and take their valuable stuff. But nobody's worth 32 Trillion dollars, so option 2 is dicey at best.

“of course, only when they’re not president. When a Republican is president, it’s never a problem...”

He’s not wrong. For Republicans, “cutting spending” is a campaign issue, nothing more.

Re: "Spending increased under the Trump administration without protest from Republicans."

I protested about Trump's pre-Covid spending all the time.

In 2018 and 2019 - before Covid - we had full employment, low interest rates, low inflation, record tax collection, and no wars.

From memory, Trump's deficit was over $500 billion in both those years.

I distinctly remember Lindsey Graham and a few others asserting that paying COVID relief amounts LARGER than the salary a job would pay was a recipe for disaster. So not all Rs are quite as guilty.

Generally, however, yes Rs like to spend. That’s changing for the better.

And for perspective:
A. A billion seconds ago it was 1992.
B. A billion minutes ago people who knew Jesus were alive .
C. A billion hours ago our ancestors were living in the Stone Age.
D. A billion days ago no-one walked on the earth on two feet.
E. A billion dollars ago was only 8 hours and 20 minutes,

Imagine trillions !

“ an adult has to cut up the credit card” after overspending on the coronavirus that ended up being stolen”

Does he have a clue that we are 30 trillion in debt?

I am sorry dear Democrats, but the spending that happened in the initial days of Covid was appropriate. Telling businesses they HAD to shutdown for 2 weeks wasn’t the issue. The problem accelerated as 2 weeks turned into months.

Governors and States that failed to restore order as quickly as possible should be held to account.

Medical experts that choked the life out of the economy need to be held to account.

And yes, the spending party is over. Cut up the credit card.

The theft of Federal funds is a feature, not a bug.

It is intended to be rerouted to the DNC and friends.

How do you suppose they pay all of those pot heads to drop campaign literature on every doorstep for every state and local race?

And spending increased under the Trump administration without protest from Republicans.

Well Trump is now saying that we need to cut spending. So there's that.

Too many agencies, directors, workers, and freebies, under the government umbrella.
Until we start letting the bottom tier of bloodsuckers starve to death in the streets, there will be no reducing or paying off the deficit or debt.

Republicans should NOT be tying cuts to raising the debt ceiling. Republicans should be refusing to raise the ceiling period. That would force spending cuts as the interest has to and will be paid. There will be pain because the Democrats will suck the money from SS and Medicare before it trims spending on other unConstitutional welfare programs to inflict as much pain as possible.

Bill Maher is either waking up this past year or so,or this is just more “a broken clock is right twice a day” stuff.

Don’t know, don’t care. If his viewers plae any credence in what he says, and they start waking up, then good.

One more thing: Where’s that $200,000,000,000 in military spending that’s disappeared since Biden too?
