A New Mexico prosecutor on Thursday charged actor Alec Baldwin and others in the fatal shooting of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins during the filming of Western “Rust.”

District Attorney Mary Carmack-Altwies announced involuntary manslaughter charges against Baldwin and the film’s armorer after more than a year of investigation into the October 2021 shooting on a film set outside Santa Fe.

Assistant director David Halls has signed a plea agreement for the charge of negligent use of a deadly weapon, the prosecutor said in a statement.

“After a thorough review of the evidence and the laws of the state of New Mexico, I have determined that there is sufficient evidence to file criminal charges against Alec Baldwin and other members of the ‘Rust’ film crew,” Carmack-Altwies said.

Damn! DA Mary Carmack-Altwies might really be interested in uh uh..oh, what is that word? Oh yeah, JUSTICE. It’s been a long time and my memory ain’t what it used to be.

That said, my best guess is since Baldwin is a very high profile liberal, a lifetime Democrat and probably donates to the right candidates, he skates.
However Mary Carmack-Altwies being a nobody and not very high in any pecking order, will probably get the maximum.

The armorer is the most guilty. She was the ultimate person hired specifically to handle the weapons. If she did her job properly, there would have been nothing in the gun at that point in time. She gave her official ok to that weapon.

16 months after a crime - where no one disputes what happened, the victim the perp and a dozen witnesses were all in the same room, and police/DA had all evidence immediately in their hands - are charges filed.

America’s justice system is a clogged toilet.

The crew was target shooting with the guns during off periods, using real ammo.
But yeah, early on I thought, “If he wanted to kill this lady, this was a good plan.”

I think he was being a smart-ass and was going to scare her, the crew, or whoever by firing what he assumed was a blank.

Alec Baldwin, the Executive Producer decided to cut some costs by using real guns that would be outfitted for prop usage, rather than rent and fly in prop guns that look like real guns but cannot use real bullets.

The guns in question were used for recreational target practicing the night before. The armourer in question didn’t properly prep the gun before delivering it on set. The armourer was too green for the job, which is another failing on Baldwin’s part.

Her consequences are great, but her level of participation in the crime are lower, thus lower charges.

You can only charge an appropriate charge in the window of the time frame of their responsibility.

Sad that it took so long when we know how it would have fallen out for any of the rest of us nobodies, but I am glad that it looks like some sort of attempt at justice is being done.

Comments from liberals around the net are hysterical. They are defending Baldwin. If it had been Adam Baldwin, they would be screaming for 1st degree murder charges.

Like they did for Kyle Rittenhouse's clear self-defense shootings.

And Baldwin still failed to exercise some very basic rules of gun safety.

And any actor or actress who has a gun placed in their hands, be it real of *fake*, should be well versed and trained in proper gun safety. Check the gun and clear it before anything else, don’t point it at anything you don’t intend to shoot, finger off the trigger.

There is no excuse for anyone being handed a gun for not knowing how to responsibility handle it while it is in their posession.

My understanding is that a standard safety check involves checking barrels and chambers and firing the gun into a target or ground until you have fired off all the chambers or a full magazine to ensure the gun is empty before you start to play with it.

I’m Canadian and I know this.

“ The armorer is the most guilty. “

I agree — what is an actor supposed to know about the specifics of the firearm that the Armorer doesn’t?

Isn’t the Armorer’s reason for having employment on the movie set be that he/she is the Expert on these matters?

He will not go to prison. I’ll make a bet right now with anyone that the most he will get is a bunch of community service hours.

If a gun is being placed in his hands, there’s no excuse to know know the most basic safety protocols.

He may not need to know the intricacies of gun assembly and names of parts, etc, but the basic rules of check the gun, clear it, finger off the trigger, never point it at something you don’t intend to shoot, are so fundamental to gun safety that nobody should even be allowed to pick up a gun or have on placed in their hands, until they have those well nailed down.

Nothing will happen. This is all for looks. He’ll wind up with 1 year probation and a $5,000.00 fine.

My guess is that Baldwin heard at least 100 times in his life that if you point a gun at somebody.... YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE or WHATEVER HAPPENS !!!!!!

I agree that the armorer is also guilty as hell. There should not have been a live round within a hundred fn miles of the movie set much less IN THE GUN! Jeez!

But, the democrats will let him go. That said, it will be fun to see Baldwin in cuffs and a orange jump suit being led to jail by a 90lb female officer. Never liked the guy.
