~ The FReeper Canteen Presents ~ ~ Remembering Our Troops!! ~
Don’t Get Paid Enough For This Firefighters with the Directorate of Emergency Services Fire Department conduct ice rescue training Jan. 11, 2023, at a frozen Big Sandy Lake on South Post at Fort McCoy, WI. Several firefighters with the team took their turn getting in a suit, strapping on an air tank and full-face mask, and diving into the depths of Big Sandy Lake under the ice on Fort McCoy’s South Post. The divers were covering depths of up to 15 feet or more completing several types of rescue scenarios under the guidance of fellow firefighters. Divers took turns going in and out of the same hole that was cut in the ice. Each diver was tethered with a connecting line that included a communications connection. This is an annual requirement for dive team members to maintain their abilities. (U.S. Army Video by Scott T. Sturkol, Public Affairs Office, Fort McCoy, WI.)
Canteen Mission Statement
Showing support and boosting the morale of our military and our allies' military and family members of the above. Honoring those who have served before.
Just Another Day At The Office! A New Jersey Army National Guard UH-60L Black Hawk, with Charlie Company, 1-171st General Support Aviation Battalion, hoists a crew chief up at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, New Jersey, Jan. 5, 2023. (U.S. Army National Guard photo by Spc. Michael Schwenk)
Happy Retirement!! Tomi, 319th Security Forces Squadron military working dog, bites into a biscuit during his retirement ceremony Jan. 12, 2023, on Grand Forks Air Force Base, North Dakota. As a tradition of Air Force MWD retirement ceremonies, MWDs are given a dog-safe cookie or cupcake to commemorate their retirement. (U.S. Air Force photo by Airman 1st Class Raisa Christie)
Um, No!!! Seaman Joseph Machtel, a member of deck department on Coast Guard Cutter Polar Star (WAGB 10), gets pulled back through the water during ice rescue training in the McMurdo Sound, Antarctica, Jan. 2, 2023. Antarctica is the coldest, windiest, most inhospitable continent on the globe, and each trip requires careful planning and coordination. U.S. military service members are trained and ready to support Operation Deep Freeze 2023 despite the austere environment. (U.S. Coast Guard photo by Petty Officer 3rd Class Aidan Cooney)
Warm Weather Activity Is Better Than Deep Freeze! The Marines with the Marine Security Guard Detachment at U.S. Embassy Skopje, North Macedonia, welcome their region commanding officer and first sergeant for a command visit by taking them kayaking through the Matka Canyon on August 15, 2022. (U.S. Marine Corps courtesy photo) Let’s Eat!!!! Petty Officer 3rd Class Brandon Brady prepares lunch for the crew at Station Atlantic City, New Jersey, January 12, 2023. Brady originally wanted to be a Gunner's mate, but found his knack for supporting the crew with his food. (U.S. Coast Guard photo by Petty Officer 3rd Class Carmen Caver)
Ooh Rah!! Recruits with Bravo Company, 1st Recruit Training Battalion, begin the Crucible with a hike at Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island, SC, Jan. 12, 2023. The 5-mile hike marks the beginning of their 54-hour Crucible. (U.S. Marine Corps photo by Lance Cpl. Samuel Qin)
Please remember that The Canteen is here to support and entertain our troops and veterans and their families, and is family friendly.

The wind does seem to be dying down now. It’s still breezy enough that our 43 degrees seems chillier. I’m hoping tomorrow will be nice and quiet.
Did you get any snow today, Kathy? How are the duckies?

When I checked Earthwind earlier, it looks like the wind isn’t nearly as strong on the backside of the front as it is on this side. It’ll still be breezy tomorrow but not nearly as wild as tonight.
It’s still 66 degrees here but when standing in the wind, it feels a lot cooler. That’s wind chill for ya.

No snow today, but they say it is coming. They are saying some snow the whole next week.
No duckies for a couple days. They’ve been spooked by something. Several nights ago I saw an owl fly through the yard.

Oh, I can understand their fear of owls. But, to be fair, the owl probably has a family that needs to be fed. I hope he goes somewhere else to shop for food.
Hope the snow isn’t so much that you have shoveling issues. That’s hard work!

Crazy how warm it gets right before the bottom drops out. We had your weather probably day before yesterday. This one is a slow drop, but dropping it is. No 70s for us this week!

We had a great time at Chisolm Trail Park yesterday, especially Gizmo. Here are all the pics.
Today is Delbert's Day. We plan on doing Chsiolm Trail Park later today.
So far so good with the pickup. We'll see how it goes. The fix applied last week seems to be working.

It gets warm because warm air from the south gets pulled up by the front. Then the front passes and we’re stuck with the cold air behind it. Thankfully, this isn’t a really cold one and that saved our bacon as far as severe weather goes. It’s finally raining here but not hard. The wind’s died down at least.
Another front comes through tomorrow, without rain, and that brings the nippy air. Mid 60s tomorrow and mid 30s tomorrow night. brrrrrrrr

Howdy, Howdy, Early Birds!
Yep, I'm late again. LOL!
How do you like the camo?
Would I fit in with the brave troops?
I could be a scout for them.
Hope all y'all have a Thank-The-Troops Thursday!
The wind finally quit howling here. Whew!
(((hugs)))
