~ Remembering Our Troops!! ~

Don’t Get Paid Enough For This

Firefighters with the Directorate of Emergency Services Fire Department conduct ice rescue training Jan. 11, 2023, at a frozen Big Sandy Lake on South Post at Fort McCoy, WI. Several firefighters with the team took their turn getting in a suit, strapping on an air tank and full-face mask, and diving into the depths of Big Sandy Lake under the ice on Fort McCoy’s South Post. The divers were covering depths of up to 15 feet or more completing several types of rescue scenarios under the guidance of fellow firefighters. Divers took turns going in and out of the same hole that was cut in the ice. Each diver was tethered with a connecting line that included a communications connection. This is an annual requirement for dive team members to maintain their abilities. (U.S. Army Video by Scott T. Sturkol, Public Affairs Office, Fort McCoy, WI.)

I heard on the Mark Levin show that Congressman Steube from FL had fallen from his roof, and was in the hospital, I thought you would probably know how to post a prayer request especially since he’s military, thanks

January 19

But I’m Telling You

Bible in a Year:

But I tell you, love your enemies.

Matthew 5:44

“I know what they’re saying. But I’m telling you . . .” As a boy, I heard my mother give that speech a thousand times. The context was always peer pressure. She was trying to teach me not to follow the herd. I’m not a boy any longer, but herd mentality’s still alive and kicking. A current example is this phrase: “Only surround yourself with positive people.” Now while that phrase may be commonly heard, the question we must ask is: “Is that Christlike?”

“But I’m telling you . . .” Jesus uses that lead-in a number of times in Matthew 5. He knows full well what the world is constantly telling us. But His desire is that we live differently. In this case, He says, “Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you” (v. 44). Later in the New Testament, the apostle Paul uses that very word to describe guess who? That’s right: us—“while we were God’s enemies” (Romans 5:10). Far from some “do as I say, not as I do,” Jesus backed up His words with actions. He loved us, and gave His life for us.

What if Christ had only made room in His life for “positive people”? Where would that leave us? Thanks be to God that His love is no respecter of persons. For God so loved the world, and in His strength we are called to do likewise.

Reflect & Pray

When’s the last time someone extended love to you when you weren’t “positive”? What’s a tangible way today that you can show love to an enemy?

Father, it’s tempting to surround myself with only those who love me. But that’s not living, at least not the kind of living You desire for me. Help me to love even my enemies.

Howdy, Kathy.

You made it to hump Day. Ready for an early bedtime tonight?

Strange weather day up there today. Pea soup fog this morning, bright sunshine most of the day, and now it looks like it could snow at any moment.

Any sign of the ducks at all?

Hey there, Kathy.

It was a pretty nice day here today. Cloudy but dry, and it was warm. I still have a couple of windows open on the north side of the house. A good thing since the wind has suddenly cranked up out of the south within the last half hour.

Hey there, radu!

Hope you had a warm day today. It wasn’t awful, temperature-wise here, but the wind! It was HORRIBLE!!

Howdy, luvie.

Yes, it was a nice, warm day and I still have a couple of windows open. We had a nice stiff breeze this afternoon but the wind’s roaring now. I kept hearing what sounded like distant gunshots outside and when I stepped out to listen, I was almost knocked down. Now I’ve figured out the sound is the wind making the window in here bump when it shakes. Nice to have that mystery solved. LOL

At least there isn’t any severe weather with this front. Just the wind advisory until tomorrow morning.

I don’t think I could have handled open windows in this wind. Especially since the air is cooler and probably filled with dust. I’ve been in a bad mood all day. LOL!

With the wind out of the south, I opened a couple of north-facing windows. The wind blowing directly in would have been a bit on the cool side. My room is on the south side of the house so the window’s closed and the wind gusts are bumping it. It’s thumping more as time goes on so the wind must be getting even stronger. I hope it doesn’t get too strong. We don’t need severe storms to have problems.

I could barely get the back door open to feed the kitties. And they weren’t to keen to be out in it to eat anyway. Poor babies.

I hope you don’t have any trees fall or big branches broken off. It’d be a mess to have to move them to the burn pile by yourself.
